I was actually talking about the general in the first post. I can see the difference between my opinion and what is most appealing to new viewers. Personally, I like both. However I think football is easier to get into. On first viewing I think it catches the attention more. That was all the point I was trying to make.

Ugh... basketball IS the pits, and this is from an American . I agree, it is simply up and down, up and down. But I also agree with yavoon's point that a novice can pick it up easily because there are so many points.

I like soccer the way it is, but there are some changes I'd probably make. Relaxing some of the substitution rules is probably first. HOWEVER, to prevent players cycling on and off the pitch, I'd make each substituted player the same as they are now, they are out for good when they leave... but allow unlimited amounts of subs ins.

I'd also like to see something of a sending off for too many fouls. Not like a red card or anything of that nature, but he MUST be substituted at that point when he makes 5 fouls, etc.

The game is pretty damned good though. It can always improve, just like any sport can. Take for example my two favorite sports: American Football and Baseball. Both games have had changes (For American Football it was instant replay and constant tinkering of pass interference and spearing penalties to make the game just right... even though they go too far at times , and for baseball simple changes in the playing field: move the walls in, out, build a stadium with different dimensions, raise the mound, lower the mound, etc.).

basketball has some disadvantages. one is the foul happy endings. those are a bore to sit through while ppl shoot free throws. and its not really basketball!

and their stars are hard to identify w/ cuz most of them are genetic freaks. I mean how can u identify urself w/ shaq? he's 7'1" 310 lbs 7% body fat(though not anymore). thats barely human.

Just about OK up until this point but no further, forwards are usually the fasest, most skillful players on the pitch, to give them any more advantage over defenders would turn the game into goalfest (and no, thats not considered a good thing )

well since soccer is still an insanely low scoring endeavour I doesn't appear to have done much.

"Soccer" is not a word Americans made up to reserve "football" for their beloved American Football.

In fact, "soccer" originates from England. In the old days, where everything was black and white, "football" covered many sports including rugby and "normal" football, which was called "association football" back then.

However, "association football" sounded...stupid, so people looked for ways to make it sound more appealing.
This eventually led to the name of the game being abbreviated to "socc".
The suffix "-er" at the end of the word was added by schoolboys in their slang. They also called rugby "rugger".

Later, "football" was re-adopted as the official name of the game, and "soccer" was forgotten until the Americans dug it up.

It's all relative, but I think the day that 6-3 scorelines become commonplace will mean the game is in trouble (to sya the least)

There are a lot of bigger scorelines in the lower leagues, its a sign of inferior players not different rules.

So, it's most of the World vs. the US (and a couple of other countries, yeah yeah...as always) again.

Nothing in particular against American Football though (playing one of the NFL games on Sega Genesis several years back was good). Just a serious lack of exposure beyond that, I'd guess.

Anyways, my opinions on the matter:

American Football: Boring, for the most part. Way too many downs.

Soccer: Mostly boring, but important matches can get pretty damn exciting. Watching France win the World Cup, however many years ago that was, was pretty durn thrilling.

I never said that it wasn't a minor league of the NFL. It is. But that's what makes it so great. These players are playing their damnedest to make it to the big leagues, so they lay it all out on the line. You don't have the bloated, selfish fatcats who could care less whether they win or lose, like the NFL (I live for hyperbole! ).

All you get is pure, raw, gutsy players playing their hardest for glory and love of the game.

I *DO* like junior hockey! The WHL can provide some damn exciting games, and the world championships were downright fantastic this year.

Alot of the players in the NHL are egotistical blowhards (LINDROS), but they tend not to succeed (RANGERS)... Plus, any hockey's good hockey, so I'll watch whatever's on.
