The previous administration left detailed intelligence reports for the Bush Administration on Bin Laden, speculating that he was planning a major attack, and urged for a pre-emptive attempt to take out Bin Laden and his supporters.

The Bush Administrations summarily ignored these reports and did jack **** about Bin Laden until September 11th bit us in the ass.

Now, I'm not saying things would have turned out different otherwise, but I would like to posit the theory that, had Gore won the election, he might have taken the warning of the previous administration more seriously and taken steps that could have prevented September 11th in the first place.

We'll never know, of course, who would have been better. Making brass assumptions about what Gore would have done vs. Bush is just that--assumption making. I, for one, think Gore would still be far more preferable as POTUS, if just for the fact we would not have Wolfowitz and Ashcroft.

Oh, and Speer, it was Bush who said "There ought to be limits on freedom," in reference to censoring a web site that made fun of him. And it is his administration which is saying that people "ought to be careful of what they say." Gore has never advocated censorship in this regard.

"The same facts"? All i said was that, given what Gore said pre-election, he would not have cut Taxes so deeply and thus the deficit would not be as high, given that the economy was on a downward trend by late 2000. And I doubt that Gore's people would have ever pushed for a war with Iraq, if 9/11 had happeend anyway (without 9/11, Bush would have not gone to war with Iraq).

I refuse to say how Gore would have done during 9/11 since I have no clue. I can not say he would have done worse, nor can I say he would have done better that Bush.

Considering thier lackluster response after the Embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania and the attack on the USS Cole, I doubt this was given much emphasis by the Clinton administration.

Not to mention the fact that many of the intelligence failures were intra-agency failures and simple non-disclosure to other agencies, i.e. typical bureaucratic turf BS not normally reached by politics, and all of the 19 *******s managed to get their visas (without proper procedures or followup by INS) during the Clinton administration.

At first I thought this.

But Bush hasn't been doing a good job the past few months.

I think if Al Gore had a good support staff, and let the Vice President run things like Bush lets Cheny run things , we would be in good shape.

I like Lieberman. he's almost a conservative . Daily show had a funny quote about him, but I can't remember the exact wording.

Not real good with recent history, eh? Kyoto was alsready signed by Clinton, but unratified.
