Why tax it? I mean, OK, I can see saying it should have a sales tax same as everything else, but why tax it extra?

I firmly believe that practices related to society's ills should be taxed to fund the solutions. Drug abuse is a problem. Addiction conseling and rehab programs are solutions. Don't think of it as a tax, but as a mandatory user fee.

Why regulate it? Why should the government be able to control marijuana use, period?

And yes, I understand and agree with laws against driving while stoned. I mean other than that.

The same as the others. A minor should have other things on their mind.
Don't get me wrong. They'll still access it, and alcohol and smokes, too.
That doesn't mean the government should advocate use. After all, it's a crutch.

No, you want a sales tax on pot, that isn't requiring the person who uses pot and causes a social ill to pay for it. You want the vast majority who don't cause social ills to pay for those who do even if the latter has to pay too.

Taxing doesnt solve the usage of the drug hardly at all. People who are chronic tabacco smokers do care about how much tax is but that doesnt stop them from buying pack a day.

I see Taxing as more of a reward for non-smokers. They get the benefit by having government getting source of income from someone else. Think of it as a "tax break for non-smokers".

So in conclusion.. lets legalize it.

IMO, marijuana would make you last longer... it's a depressent and slows your bodily functions down... when I'm with my GF, I usually can go longer if I'm stoned. It also feels much better.

Too many times I hear things like: people who use heavier drugs started out on marijuana. Which is stupid. How can marijuana be a gateway drug? Isn't it a barbituate? If anything, it could only be a gateway to other barbituates. Not stimulets, depressants, and hallucinigins.

If anything, Ritalin is a gateway drug Or Caffeine, or alcohol.

I think it could be considered a gateway Drug.

But not because of any special Characteristics of Cannabis itself, but just because of the fact that it is being cirminalized.
As it is criminalized you often have to buy Cannabis from dealers who also deal with other, heavier Drugs and may try to mnake you addict to those heavier drugs (doesn´t apply to germany, because we can just drive to the netherland and buy Cannabis legally ).
Netherlands has AFAIK shown, that the Legalization of Cannabis hasn´t resulted in an Increase of Heavier Drugs Addicts (AFAIK there was not just no increase, but also a slight reduction in new addicts to stronger Drugs).

So "Cannabis as Gateway Drug" could well be used as an argument for the Legalization of Cannabis

Wow, so if I smoke pot, I'm responsible for the guy who smokes pot and causes a "social ill"? Then let's tax you for owning knives since some people use them to cause "social ills".
Then we can nail you with a tax on your car, your PC (you know, internet porn), and then we can tax sex because of STD's. Shall we proceed with your argument?

One video I saw a long time ago decided me on pot for more or less my entire life. It was about a government-sponsored experiment to test the effects of pot on the brain. They noted that the stuff often impairs judgment and perception for a good 36-48 hours afterward without said impairment being casually noticed by the affected person or others around him. Took pilots who'd been stoned a day and a half before, who looked perfectly sober, and hooked them up to a flight simulator. Ninety percent screwed up(crashed, landed off strip, overshot landings, etc.). If I can be unfit to operate a vehicle and not realize it, I don't need it. Plain wine for me. At least I know when I'm really drunk.
And that's not even the most disturbing part of the video. They showed scans of the brains of normal monkeys and monkeys who'd been forced to use pot daily over six months. The latter group had BLACK brains. The neurons were contaminated with what on later inspection turned out to be THC. Maybe it doesn't affect brain function in any way. I don't care. If it builds up in my brain I want it to stay the hell away from me.
And smoking drugs of any kind should be illegal. If you need a fix, chew a brownie or some nicorette or something. I don't need that crap in my airspace.
Provided I don't have anything to do with it and you're not allowed to smoke it, I really don't care if pot is legal.

I just posted a comment from a doctor who said they have yet to find any adverse effects to the lungs from marijuana use. They haven't figured out why that is yet.

and you should know marijuana doesn't affect the liver. I assume you are talking about alcohol, but that isn't what this thread is about.

Hey I don't do drugs, but I have smoked pot in the past. My main reason for not smoking pot is because I have to undergo drug tests.
