I guess he was talking about different contexts. In his life, the chances of Imagine being realised were practically nil, so upon realising that it would take way longer than his lifetime, he decided to not put himself out, just for the sake of it.

I'm speculating of course, but it seems in keeping with his character, and with "Let it be".

I agree. Sure, Lennon had the more meaningful lyrics post-breakup (arguably), but McCartney was still good. And the work he did while in the band is every bit as important as John's.

Never the less, I still think 'Imagine' is better than 'Yesterday'. 'Hey Jude' puts them both to shame, though.

I vote for Lennon over McCartney. It's a tough vote, but I like John's Beatle songs better than Paul's generally, while in their solo careers John's self-indulgence vs Paul's incredibly shallow neediness for popularity don't do either of them much good.
