Seriously, I think our inteligence is just slightly above average, we are just more educated. Conservatives tend to be less educated than Liberals (why do you think college students tend to be more liberal than average).

People here are more intelligent than average. And by that I mean "smart". IQ-smarts. Puzzlesolving ability. not that foofoo musical smart and theory of multiple talents and such. I mean raw, knock down brains.

IQ only works well in determining a child's rate of mental development. In tests I've taken I have ranged from 100 to 180. it doesnt work for people over ~16 years old I red in an article by the late science writer Stephen Jay Gould a few years back.

Gould was an extremely politicized blowhard. he didn't know that much about IQ testing or neurology. The more we learn about the brain, the more we find out that smarts are just an attribute like height.

No, my latest test my doctor gave gave me. I have taken one every 2 years since I was 7. I mean given by a Psycologist, not one of those Do-it-yourself ones.

intelligence an attribute like height? i dont know... i think people can become more intelligent over time (i mean, the more you do anything, the better you become at it and the faster you can do it... so the more problems you solve, the better you get at problem solving) but they can't grow taller...

me, i took an offical iq test once in 2nd grade when the teacher wanted to see if i qualified for MG classes... i dont know what my score was but apparently it was high enough for me to be in MG

I didn't read the whole thing, so sorry if this has already been stated (I know how people on 'polly hate having to read a few useless sentences). The people of the forum is determined by the game they play. The people at this forum are strategy gamers. Not the kind that play RTS, those kind just like to see stuff blown up. Civ3 is the ultimate strategy game. Those that play it play it for the intellectuel challenge, not because they like seeing stuff blown up. Those that are good at it (who mostly are the forum participaters) must be smart at planning and managing things. I've noticed that the people here are WAY smarter. You can tell this by the number of Bush-supporters here. When was the last time you saw a polly member say he liked Bush?

I go from (when I talk to average joes in my small town) from being able to win most of the time when I argue about politics to always losing arguments. Of course there was that one time I beat a moderator in an argument, but that's maybe one of a very small number of arguments I've actually won here.

And plus, you can just look at the credentials of some of the people here. For example, gepap went to University of Chicago and is going to get his PhD in political science (unless he's lying, but I highly doubt it). If you can do that you've gotta be pretty frickin smart. And, have you noticed that the average person here gets whooped in an argument when he argues against one of the smart ones? It's because Apolyton has some very smart people. No matter who you are, even if you have a very high iq, I bet you can find several people here smarter than you.
