Why hasn't this man been brought to justice. Isn't it amazing how Saddam is being hounded, yet we know the location of this man and no effort is being made to make him pay for his crimes...typical double standards...

IIRC it was part of an agreement to keep him from creating civil war in Uganda. Going back to 1979, it's hard to remember exactly, but I do remember some kind of deal.

Sorry, the US only hunts/kills dictators if there is economic incentive.

was there an economic incentive for taking out Milosevic?

i think Amin is like Pinochet... they're both old and sickly so let's just let them live their last days in elderly pain and die naturally... it's like those jewish groups who still go into latin america to hunt down nazis... they're in their 80's and 90's! please leave them alone and let them die. they'll be gone soon enough

Did the US spend $100 billion and put 200k ground troops in Serbia?

edit: December 9th, 1990; Milosevic elected in first multi-party elections since WW2.

July 15, 1997 -- Milosevic elected Yugoslav president by federal parliament, steps down as Serbian president after serving maximum two terms.

July 27, 2000 -- Milosevic sets elections for September 24.

September 26, 2000 -- Federal elections commission says opposition candidate Vojislav Kostunica won by 48.22 percent to 40.23, calls a second round since neither won an absolute majority. Kostunica camp cries fraud, rejects result.

October 6, 2000 -- Milosevic concedes defeat in the election.

Dictators usually don't concede defeat Speer. I don't blame you though, the vast majority of Americans don't have a clue either.

As I recall, the US didn't actually "take out" Milosevic.

He was defeated electorally a year and a half (?) after the war finished.

i don't understand how these crazy people get into power sometimes... i mean we're not talking about monarchies where you can easily get an insane king... Amin started out with popular support and probably was extremely intelligent and politically skilled to maneauver himself into power. but he was so insane, he ate people?! how does someone like that get in and stay in power for so long?

(i do find it funny though how he basically said **** you to the two great superpowers of the US and SU... little president of a country like Uganda did that of all people)

His official title's. Like all simple men who get to power, he had a thing towards bombastic ranks.

Amin was born around -24, he has been eating oranges and watching sports in SA since late 70's. He hasn't been demonized probably because he's political actions and speeches clearly indicate that he's so stupid that it's sympathic.

we put 200K ground troops in Iraq?

anyway, we didnt need to... with Yugoslavia, we just had to bomb them into submission (they weren't as fanatical) and didn't need much of an army to occupy the country or re-build (or create) the infrastructure to rebuild Serbia...

we did do quite a bit in Bosnia though a couple years before. and aren't there still troops in Serbia by the way?

thanks

what I meant wasnt that Pinochet and Amin are equal in 'evilness' or whatever... i meant that they are both old, sick men who have been out of power for years (Pinochet was in power only ten years ago, amin has been gone for some 30 years apparently)... so why bother with war crimes and all those things... just let them die

It makes more sense with the avatar.

Depends on the viewpoint. Many do rate dictators such as Selassie, Gaddafi and Musharraf as 'good' leaders, simply because their neighbours at the time were so much worse.

quote:

I don't want to threadjack, so I'll simply state that you have lot to learn about the 1992-1999 megaconflict in the Balkan area...

Do few google searches, visit your local library, ask from your teachers if they know anything about those wars.
