Ask her. Out. Even if it doesn't work out, she'll respect you for it.

Knee deep in alien womyn...

quote: How about some background details, you daft bugger? |
Sorry.
The nurse at the school I work with is a very fit bird and I know she likes me, but I've stayed away up until now because I don't want to **** where I eat. I'm worried that going out with her will come back to bite me in the ass, since any relationship is almost assured to end eventually, after which I'll be known as the gaijin who broke the adorable young nurse's heart. No surer way to gain the ire of the ladies at work and probably most of the men.
With this in mind, I've been trying to stay away, but she sits right across from me and just looks so damn hot all the time. I know I can have it if I want it and my resolve is slowly weakening, so I'm trying to come up with an ingenious way to have my cake and eat it too.
The only option I can think of right now is to have a secret romance. I hear that's the tactic of choice in Japan, but I'm not really sure if it will work for me. The Japanese are amazing gossips and it's hard for me to buy groceries without being noticed, let alone carry on a secret relationship. I'm pretty sure we'll get found out very quickly, which doesn't really solve my problem.
Got any better ideas? I'd be grateful to hear them.

Sort of. It's more like I don't want to share a workplace with my ex and all the other people at work who are in the same in-group as her, a group I can never be a part of due to my ethnicity. I can deal with the akwardness around an ex, but not with everyone I work with.
quote: Are you in some form of indentured slavery? If it's that much of a worry you, or her, can always change jobs- most people don't work more than a few years with one employer after all. |
I'm teaching English on a certain government program, so I can't really transfer. I'll be heading back to America in two or maybe three years, which is part of the reason that any relationship is bound to end eventually.
She can't really transfer, either, as she is told where to work by the prefectural government. And people do work for one employer for many years here.
quote: Anyway- she might not fancy you. |
It would actually be better for me if she didn't, but I'm almost certain she does. I don't want to ask her flat out, however, as that would give it away to the whole office that I like her.
Also, since I'm still nominally commited to a "don't **** where you eat" policy, it would be rather silly to ask her if she fancies me. If she says "yes", it would be rather dumb to reply with "Alright, I was just checking. See you tomorrow!"

No. You can't be a part of them due to you being an arsehole and a bit of a sissy.
