England's not big enough to have total quiet anywhere (well there are only 3 places in the country free from traffic noise)

Mountains generally have trees on them, to a certain height (it's called the treeline, strangely enough)

Perfect camping = an island with trees (mostly coniferous, but some deciduous) on a small lake in the mountains.

A campout with a fire is like a day without sunshine.
And who the hell is going to volunteer to gather wood, from base OR treeline?
Go on. Answer me that one.

In the past Ming was involved with the SCA?!?! My God, it is a small world - so was I.

For those who don't know what SCA stands for:

"Society for Creative Anachronisms"

Wittlich Inflate your Upload Space

http://www.penny-arcade.com/news.php3?date=2003-07-09

quote:
By now everyone has heard about the young men who had a big plot to do bad stuff with a bunch of guns and swords. If it was just guns, you might think I was talking about something else. Maybe those one guys, or the dudes... You know, those other dudes. Those swords just give it away though, don't they! So they were absolutely covered with loaded weapons, these three young men with swords, and it was their aim to jack a car and maybe drive it around for a while until they killed some people at their school. They were, no doubt, surprised to find the procedure somewhat more complex than pressing a single button. And of course, the driver was having none of it - when he realized what these SCA mother****ers were actually trying to do, he drove away. Then, the credits rolled on their grim endeavor. Some cops came back, and there was a tense moment before their Blood Pack or whatever they were calling themselves was hurled bodily into the dungeon, or "prison."

quote:
Lord Matthias von Drachenfang of the Society for Creative Anachronism bridled at my earlier comment regarding "SCA Mother****ers." He would like everyone to know for the record that if they had been in the Society, they would have actually gotten the car, which they would have driven with care to a sactioned event and then returned the "noble steed" to its rightful owner.

I'm just clearing things up.

Enter the AD-FREE zone

In another words: "chewing at the bit." The author was being cute with his wording because the SCA relives how the middleages was and/or how it could have / should have been. For example, wearing a wrist watch while in period costume is not wise, but if it is seen on your person, you can always call it your "Elven time piece." Another example is in the article, Lord Matthias used the term "noble steed" instead of "car." I know, it can be silly at times - but actually is a lot of fun...plus you get to wear tights!

Tired of ads?

Any how, getting back to the subject at hand: Camping? No thanks. I got enough of that during my years in the Army...now if we are using Winnibagos or staying in a log cabin or the like, that would be a different story.
