I can afford the luxury of AOL -- I am making more than enough money while going to graduate school from work, on top of financial aid.

I can't really give a hard-nosed-rational reason why I want to keep AOL. If I could not afford to keep it, then yes, I would ditch it, and then I would save money since I do not pay for the university's network Internet connection.

What luxury?!

I only used AOL, when I couldn't get anything else. If I had a free network connect, I'd ditch AOL and simply connect to the internet, which is what I want to do anyway. What's the point of having AOL if you don't need it?

But you need all those things (at least I do)... and even if you didn't, they make your life better.

AOL... well that can only make life worse. It's only another barrier to get to the web. Hell, the only times I've been forced to use AOL, I just connect and then fire up IE .

I believe MtG's first post on this thread was right on the mark.

I only used AOl in Mississippi in 1999 when there wasn't much else available

but then I discovered there was something else available and I switched.
