I had cats in my family for years and years
we had an older cat (a couple years) who was an excelent mouser (learned from my cat who was 10ish)
my sister got a new kitten, he was really rowdy and annoying, and the cat that was a yaer or two old was fixed (it was a she)
but when my sisters kitten got to be allowed outside the older cat would bring mice up to the front (which is where the kitten stayed) and try and get him to kill it
he would chase it, but everytime I saw, he let it get away (he was an older kitten too, not a real young thing)
he is the only cat in the family now (is like 3 or so, the older cat is dead) ubt he still can't hunt at all
and he never really ranged and always stayed near the front of the house (if not inside)
he seems to think that the only things he should attack are people and strings (she caught anything and everything, but had a special hatred of snakes which she hunted with a passion (she often had snake bite marks on her and we would always find snakes with their heads bit off))
