Just for the record I'd rather build it myself. My current system is a dell, but I bought it when I was 17 and before I knew a single thing about hardware. The next one will be a custom built

Even in this case, it's much better to support your local screwdriver shops than Dell or Gateway. These outfits generally have better service, and you get to choose exactly what components to go into your box.

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

YMMV, though.

I like choosing what I put in my system though, and if unsure of any components, just ask 'Poly what they think.

I guess there is always a good reason that Best Buy always has a 2-4 page spread with comps in the $300-500 range. A G for a decent one.

A lady at work asked me about a PC. She was clueless and just wanted something for internet access and email. I do not think that I could have built it cheaper than one of those systems.

Me, on the other hand, wants a biznatch hippy-hoppy BA gaming machine. I'm still trying to come up with a Bizzaro-bob case mod idea as well.

depends though. Ive got a BIG local screw driver shop (micro center) and a little one (that mainly sells refurbished PC's but also builds new PC's) If you look only at the best deals Dell is offering on budget PC's , Dell seems competitive. Of course that gives you far fewer options than the local screwdriver shops.
