I am with zeit... I think we can do both... in conjunction with RP in the south, and on our own in the north.

BTW, aren't we once again waaay late?

Yes, but I can't get to 16 upgraded knights in the north. I have now 12 knights there, and 3 elite WCs, which I probably shouldn't upgrade.

Got spare money?

As of now, I have 12 Knights in Beta, 3 elite WCs in Beta-8, 11 Knights in Olibanum Gale.

2 WCs are on a galley, I would have to ship them back to OG to upgrade them, but we have only 124g left, not enough for 2 WCs.

So what will we do in the south?

I moved 3 pikes and 4 MI (1 has to heal) to Merida-66. It is undefended.

What will we do with the 2 knights near Essigbar? Attack the lone Ansar? The city? or what?

I can't wait anymore. I played according to the orders in the Spartan acadamy, moved 10 knights to Merida-63 and the 2 to Essigbar-9. The southern galley retreats 3 tiles, to keep track of the approaching galleys.

Turn played.

We have 124 gold and make +177/turn

May be it's not that bad, after all. Merida is undefended, and provides a luxury. They certainly have all what they have in Alamo, and have now to divert defenders to Merida, or to abandon it. We should ask RP not to attack so far, and wait what the GoW does.

The meridia move is good, force them to abandon it or divert troops.

Also it helps RP rally the troops, if you will. Assuming they don't lose pamplona this turn.

I'm still for the Northern invasion... as long as we can have some kind of credibile force in the South. Too bad about the upgrades in the South, though, it nearly forces the issue. Part of the money would have come from the delay of our forces while going North (which takes many turns), now the upgraded forces are in the South, and if we want to apply them in the North we'll have to wait for them to get there. Which takes 4-5 turns...

It is true that because of the loss of our forces the Northern invasion lost part of its appeal, however we have to make some significant effort if we want to win here. Just slugging it out over the South is not worth the effort. In the North we can land an impressive force (BTW, 20 units won't nearly be enough, think 50 units or don't go there at all) and do a lot of damage. In the South, we only react to what GoW and ND do to us.

Could anyone tell me how we got our iron back? To me it sounds a bit too early... it sounds like we have currently upgraded nearly all available units. If most of our units will take another 5 turns to get to the invasion point, and if we still need to build more units before starting, we'd probably be better off without iron for a while.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Oh, and keep RP from leaving Pamplona poorly defended... they can expect a major attack there in the near future. If they now weaken their forces, they are gone, and we can't stop that from occuring if we want to have any possibility of going North to bother GoW on their home turf.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

I think we need to come up with a cohesive plan and stick to it.

Are we going to go in the north? If so, what turn and what force will we use? (and how we get the forces, either organically or through more iron cutting)

I think we've been a bit disjointed recently on our turns. I know NYE was trying to get a plan in place with the Spartan Academy, but IMHO, no big picture strategy has emerged.

Can one of the generals (or both) develop a plan(s) to attack GoW (or whomever) laying out the required force composition and notes on how to get there from this turn.

BTW, Re: techs: 40 turn research does us no good, if we needed that we should have started when stopping our last tech. Now, we have lost some 20 turns, and by the time we would get it with one scientist, we should have gotten it anyway.

I don't think now is a good time to start research though. The reason is that we don't really need the extra capacity for an invasion (rushing a couple of galleys is far less expensive than researching Astro), and we still need money for upgrades. Once that first force hits GoW's home turf, we can divert gold back to research. Right now, we have to remain focused on our objectives, and those objectives are not to remain at war for the rest of our days, the objectives are to get a permanent hold on Bob, if possible eliminating both GoW and ND.

Suffering from ads?

Theseus has posted a plan on the Spartan Academy, arguing that we have to take the fight to the enemy.

He suggested 8 Knights and 8 Pikes landing in 310 AD at the mountain at YellowKnife 233, followed by the remaining Knights and some Pikes (10 units) two turns later.

This may not be a hammer-blow, but 26 units should still ruffle their feathers. I'd be concerned if I were them. They'll have a job dislodging them and as I see it, have no choice but to withdraw their Southern forces to defend the homeland. This takes the pressure off the South, assuming we're still there in two turns, and could allow our knights and subsequent reinforcements to consolidate the position in the south.

I reckon that the proposed landing will at the very least take the initiative from the enemy. They cannot push in the South and defend the ranch.

Waiting for a 40-unit build up also allows more GA-fuelled 3 movers to be built by our enemies, which can be deployed instantly, while our Knights drum their fingers on the Stormia sea-wall...

I'm not sure which thread, this or the Spartan Acadamy is best for this discussion, so I've posted the same comments there.

Still lookin' for a job, so been outta the loop for the most part.

I'm still all for a push 'em to the wall invasion up north, even AFTER losing the force in the south and even after doing my catch up reading.

why?

Because it puts the fight on their turf.

The south suddenly looks fairly unattractive to GoW if we have a wampum big force ripping the guts outta their homeland, and they'll be scampering back home to protect it.

Sure, let's keep funnelling some guys TO the south to hold the line. Let's threaten them as we're able, but let's not turn the side show into the main event.

We'll win or lose by taking the initiate AWAY from them, not by merely responding to what they're doing in the south. We want 'em to leave the south? Two options: Beat them out, or give them something else to worry about.

Beating them out won't work, cos they can get guys TO the south faster than we can. Three movers, road network...the works.

We got slow moving galleys with bad carriage rates. They win, every time.

But if we hit them where they ain't....
