Yes, it was repealed, and the so-called marriage penalty only applied to a small percentage of married couples, those making equal amounts of money. I make a considerable amount more than she does, so there's a definate tax benefit for us.

No, it negatively affected everyone who made more than subsistence living. The standard deduction for a married couple was much lower than 2 times the single deduction and the change to the higher tax bracket was at a much lower joint income. Your benefits come via disproportionately increasing your deductions relative to your income.
