I don't think drinking water is endagered, but fresh water to draw on is. It will require greater amounts of processing...

Speaking of which I am sure there are some very expensive catalysts and chromatography resins out there that cost more than $1000 per gram. I remember a 1 liter bottle of one that cost over a million dollars!!

I was under the impression that Californium is the most expensive ELEMENT, going a couple of million per gram. Since Bacteriophages aren't "substance" I don't think they count.

Coke is typically bought in 1/8 of ounce quantity known as an 8-ball and normal prices vary from $80us to $300us depending on quality and greed and point of purchase(bar costs more and has less potency). I like saffron, but it is way to expensive, but I think the bull sperm would be most expensive. I am from Wisconsin and I remember some dairy expos with hundreds of thousands of dollars exchanged for the small vial of bull spoge I wonder how much the people get paid to extract that from the 600lb angry bull?????

I think the stuff from Spain is the rarest and most desired. Last time I bought it I made a huge batch of paella and it cost me $20 for the small amount I used, was tasty as hell though.

Some radiolabelled chemicals can be bloody expensive too - I would definitely think that some of the life science stuff would rank amongst the most expensive per unit mass, fact is though, you only buy miniscule masses.
