Got spare money?

Who are you kidding. I know you're just posting here 'yeah let's meet then and there' and then you go 'hey Dolores, come on here check out this thread! Nice folks here..'. So now you have an alibi. No one really comes to Vegas. Except for two things; booze/drugs and stippers/prostitutes. This I know.

So, why are you getting yourself an alibi? I'm worried, I think you should really think about this twice..

Dissident, California? We all know LA is the porn capital of the world! SO I think it's only natural that when you get out of Las Vegas, you go to harder drugs and even harder porn. Relatives? Yeah, sure.

Vegas isn't as cheap as I thought. The room is $99 a night, and nothing special. Not a suite... Somehow I was under the impression that they made it on the gambling and gave breaks elsewhere, but.

This used to be the case.

Casinos used to offer the rooms for free.

But they got greedy. Also too many people would stay in the rooms for free, but go to other casinos to gamble.

The casino might give rooms for free, if they could prevent people from leaving their place and going to others. But I doubt you will ever see free rooms in my city again.

they also have many national parks. My Aunt wants to see Death Valley for some reason. Also Sequioa national park. Probably won't have time to see anything else.

"And I'll be camping with friends...no hotel." Well, I'm fairly certain I can bring a guest or two through security to go for a swim in the hotels ocean. I mean they have to feed the sharks sometime. Think about it, if your trip isn't what you hoped for then put the petal to the metal and camp nearby. You can use our shower, and don't forget dinner is on me.

Btw, thanks for the link, nice room.

Pekka, how dare you talk about strippers/prostitutes in my thread without giving addresses!?!

Dissident, lets have a few drinks and post some dumb pictures! Or have a few drinks and not post dumb pictures, that might be fun too. Interested? So far I've briefly met Sten and also SuperSneak a couple of times. Both great people, meeting Poly folks is great fun. A face to the personalities, or something like that. I've been reading your posts since someone mentioned you were in Vegas.

Death Valley and Sequoia... not exactly neighbors are they? Have fun driving all over the place...

Madalay Bay is nice... It's the one on "Vegas" (the TV show) they pretend to be... Pricy tabels though. Go to Paris, Mirage (play with the Tigers) or MGM for better... Lots to do besides gamble there. Clubs and shows... I saw ABBA's Mama Mia in SF, it was good. Also, it's not an ABBA "clone", I don't think ABBA ever performed the musical. It was put together by them using their songs though.

Have fun, I love Vegas, but can only afford to go about once a year... My family is going the weekend before you, and I had to bow out as I am broke and going to Conn. the weekend after.

What do you mean by pricey tables, Japher? Minimum bet?

Years back when I won my $150 in Atlantic city, it was on a $2 table. When I lost my $20 in Vegas it was a $5 table and I played only 4 hands, losing every one. I prefer the $2 table because you can survive a short bad streak even when only playing w/ $20.

Do the places you mentioned have any $2 tables for us cheap folk?

Most tables these days are $5 during the day and $10 bucks at night. It's really hard to find $2 tables at any of the big casinos anymore. Yet, at some of the S. Stip casinos they still have $5 at night, but will be packed, and they might have $2 during the day.

As long as you demonstrate you are gambling there, rooms, food, drinks, and shows are still free.

It's been over 20 years since I paid for a room in Vegas.
95% of the meals have been free too. The only ones that weren't were those were we just forgot(or were to lazy) to get it comped or wandering in to a different casino that we weren't KNOWN at.
I will admit that it's harder (damn near impossible) to get golf free now and they're less willing to fly you out.
You have to be a BIG roller for those treats, but free rooms are still available for the modest gamblers.

Japher, is the Mandalay on the north or south, do you know? Thanks for letting me pick your brains.

'rah', I take it you're mostly known at the Luxor? I'd think they would definately comp a diety... Honestly I'm not much for investing $ establishing a reputation as a gambler in order to get comp meals, though I'm sure that's considered by those heavily involved as a side benefit of the gaming itself. I'll go my usual $20, and if I get rich, great. At least I won't get poor.

Any chance you could be convinced to be there while we're there? Why not drop everything and fly out? You know I'd do the same.

They have Texas Hold 'em and other versions of stud poker at the casinos, you bet against the house not the other players, like with blackjack.

Mandalay is considered South, though I consider it more central... My mom likes Madalay for the slots (she says they are looser)... I went there only once, lost about $20 bucks over an hour and 5 beers, and found a $50 chip on my way out the door!

To me, South is MGM, New York, New York, Excalibur, Luxor, and whatever else is down there... I've never been up to the North end to gamble, might be good. The Stratisphere is cool to see though...

Off strip gambling is said to be better, but the hotels are crap, except for The Hard Rock from what I hear. Small casino area, but not a bad place to hang out.

If you don't want to gamble you can try to hit up every ride and roller coaster in town, took us almost all 8 hours... and the Hoover Dam is cool to see, but only once.

Put an end to popups!

Yes, Hoover Dam is worth the trip. Especially if you can get the helicopter tour comped.

And Lancer, my hotel of choice is Harrahs. It's older so it's more lenient on it's comp rules. They also have river boats in Illinois (which I frequent every now and then) so it makes me look like a bigger gambler.

you can find $1 tables at the Sahara. They use 6 decks though. But I have won money there.

And you can find $2 tables, you have to look around. Some of the classier nicer casinos might not have them though. The smaller and local casinos do though.

We should be in the place Monday the 27th, if all goes well. Our plane gets in at 7PM. We could get together this night as you don't work the next day, would this be best for you? We would have to call you as the flights would have to go well, as well as feel up to it. Assuming those things are alright, great! If not then the 28th would be good, even during the day. If you send me your cell# I'll contact you when we get settled.

Well, Dolores and I got to meet Dissident! It was a good time though too short. I called him a couple hours after we arrived though we were both tired. We got a couple of Sam Adams beers and talked about Las Vegas. Dissident knows his town very well, and the info we got we put to use the next day. We excused ourselves after a beer and made a general agreement to get together another night...I would call him.

ARRRGGGG

I tore the hotel room apart Thursday night looking for his phone #, but to no avail! Dolores went to Mama Mia, a show, which left me with some guy time, but ARRRGGG.

All is not lost as we both took a few pics. I used a regular camera and have no scanner, but Dissident used an electronic one. So, perhaps he will post those.

Dissident, thanks for the local knowledge! We filled in our forgotten items at the pharmacy (got the water/soup heater for only $9.99! Also, Dolores got a bunch of gift items for friends and family) and had a few meals in more reasonable locations. The Mandalay was nice, the pools warm, the beach wavey, but the PRICES! All the eateries were priced to break the budget, so it was good to get out and about. I guess some of the older casinos had better food deals.

I found a $3 blackjack table at the boardwalk, lost my $20, and left. We also dropped $60 in slots, but this worked out better as we did so very slowly and managed to drink $800 worth of free drinks.

Dissident, thanks! Let me know if you're coming up to Oregon or would like to visit us in our Philippine home.

Dolores says hi!
