I have a policy: Once Lucca dies (and with his age, he shouldn't have much longer to live), he is dead - one down, a few more to go. Actually, I would love to eventually get back to just 2 cats...but since I currently have them all (or I should say they have me), I have an obligation to them. But NO MORE new cats! The "Inn" is all ready too full!

Maybe you shouldn't name your cats after RPG of the 90's characters

Cats are indeed cleaner, but they also use their tongues as asswipe - they are pretty useful in cold winters, anyway

TCO wanted some more info on my current arrangement of my "pride," so here it is:

With my 4 cats and 2 soon to arrive, I have 5 litter boxes located downstairs by the garage enterance. They are arranged under the stairs so that the cats don't drag litter all over the house. I clean out the litter boxes once a day - though I can leave for the weekend and they'll be fine, just rather full when I get home again.

What next? Ah yes. Feeding. They have to bowls of dry food which is always full (I add to it about every 3rd day). I feed them 1 can of moist cat food in the morning when I get up and 1 can in the evening (at 5PM). Yes, one can split into seperate bowls - it's just a couple bites each, but they like it), besides most of their nurishment comes from the dry food.

EDIT: I forgot about "watering." I have a filtered kitty water fountain (electric) in the kitchen for their liquid needs. (available at petsmart.com at around $50.00 ) I fill up the 1 liter reserve every 3 days - yes, my cats go through the water, which is actually a good thing (clean kidneys).

All 4 of my cats get along (though Sissy loves to hunt Gabby - which she doesn't like). Of course, with the 2 additional cats soon to arrive - we'll see how the personalities work out...

Though we live in basically a 1100 sq ft house, space isn't a problem...of course, there is always a full bed at night.

Most people who come to visit don't realize that we have 4 cats (2 of them hide from strangers). Plus I must add, that there isn't any cat "smell" in our home either. We have all the cats fixed and we keep the litter boxes clean.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Our two cats are Hobbes and Julius.

Julius was completely declawed as a kitten and everyone always told me to make sure not to let him outside as he would get hurt.

Sure enough, he snuck outside one day and was attacked by a stray cat with claws.

However, he apparently had no idea that "no claws" was a disadvantage and promptly flipped the larger stray cat on its back and held its neck in a choke hold with his mouth until it mewed for mercy.

I don't worry about him much anymore.

Ghengis, glad to hear that Julius was able to fend off the stray cat ... but remember: Because Julius doesn't have front claws, he cannot climb any trees (to get away from a stray dog - or any other wild./stray animal)...so if I were you, I would still keep him inside the house.

Put a cover on the couch if that's a problem. Even a sheet will do the trick. I think cats need the sense of digging their claws into something and an unprotected couch is a nice target, but a slippery sheet, even though they can get their claws through to the couch, defeats the need to claw.

Our latest, Chew Toy (got the name because when we found him at about two months old, a neighborhood dog in that area had used him for one, leaving three abscessed open wounds over his shoulders) is four months now, and he's trying to figure the spray hardware out - raising the tail and muscle contractions, but nothing coming out (yet). This behavior of course has earned his huevos an accelerated date with a scalpel.

Our six are all "outdoors," except Velociraptor, who has his own private quarters in what was intended to be the maid's quarters. He has window access to the other five, but stresses out less and tries to kill the other cats less when they don't get in his face to socialize.

The "outdoors" part is quoted because they're inside very high, unclimbable stone walls with strategically located bird block netting to prevent any possibility of escape. They also have overhead shelter and several areas where they're semi-enclosed, but they have the equivalent of a decent sized back yard area to run amok or loll in, according to their whims.

All are fixed except for Chew Toy, and his huevos are due to meet their fate soon.

Yeah - they need to be able to really dig in to have the most fun with clawing, so any loose cover really takes the joy out of it.

They can start as soon as they reach the 6 month mark.

Okay, my story:

When I was a teen in San Fran I had an early morning paper route. Ugh, I had to wake up every ******* morning, usually in the dark, temps in the 40's and 50's and often foggy or drizzling. We had a cat named Sambo because he was all black (as in little black Sambo) and he was an affectionate half persian-half God knows what male. We lived on Mt Davidson in the middle of the city close to the big concrete cross seen in the movie Dirty Harry and he had the mountain to roam.

As Sambo got older he became a rolling stone, going off for not just days but weeks at a time. He would be off so long we figured he got killed but after a few months he'd show up again for a visit. One morning when I was delivering papers, Sambo had been gone for 2-3 months, but lo and behold - there he was on a dark street. I called out to him and he began walking toward me but stopped in his tracks. He looked to his right at a steep hill bordering the street and I looked over to see what had caught his attention.

About 20 yards up this hill was another cat looking down at Sambo... Then another, very large cat appeared in the street behind Sambo. This cat was huge and made even Sambo who was sizeable look rather small. Sambo turned and saw this big guy standing maybe 20 feet behind him. This was the picture and I saw a battle brewing - two cats about to gang up on my beloved Sambo.

Well, not to worry, Sambo had the battle scars gathered over the years to speak for his military expertise and these younger guys weren't going to get the drop on him. I was ready to run toward Sambo to prevent the impending war but before I could react, Sambo immediately dashed up the hill toward the first cat. A couple seconds later I heard screams coming from the hillside and the big cat on the street stood there seemingly quite surprised by the turn of events.

About a minute later Sambo casually walked down off the hill and the big cat turned and headed away as Sambo was into his victory trot. That was one of the funniest things I saw, this cat, old in years, took on two cats, one much bigger, and came out of it victorious.

One more story about Sambo:

We were surrounded by neighbors with dogs. Now, these dogs weren't vicious attack dogs but one of them, ironically named Sam, short for Samantha, was a white, part wolf beauty who was prone to killing skunks and possum. I even had to jump into fights between Sam and skunks and suffered the consequences, but inspite of Sam's ability to kill small game, she was a very nice, well-mannered dog around our cats. Sam knew how to make distinctions between cats and wild critters, and that didn't help her when it came to Sambo.

Anyway, 3 of our neighbor's dogs, Sam, Martha which was a little beagle, and Christopher a black middle sized mutt were all outside and Sambo walked up to us. The 3 dogs moved in and cornered Sambo against a garage door. Oh crap, I couldn't believe these dogs were seriously considering attacking Sambo. Well, they didn't get the chance, Sambo looked like Bruce Lee with claws. He launched into a swirling mass of claws first clipping the beagle and then the black mutt. It took about 1 second for the picture to change from 3 dogs cornering a cat to 3 dogs with their tails between their legs heading away from the focus of that swirling mass of claws.

my best cat (the one that I had until my senior year of highschool) was fixed at 3 and had a decent persiod as a rural (like farms) tomcat before hand

he was always the kindest and gentlest to people though (never bit or clawed) and for most of his life didn't have any in house problems (after the antifreeze he started having troubles with throwing up food he ate, I am not sure if he could keep much down)

he always really liked attention, and even put up with kids and babies

he loved to roll on his back and have his tummy scratched

he lived a decently long time (like 12 years)

being hit and having all his guts on the other side of his ribs (he was put on lung machine), having his face pulled off, and drinking antifreeze (the vet gave him less than a year to live but he stayed arround for over 3 more), until his life finally ended when he was ran over by my next door neighbors (The body was still warm when I found it upon returning home from visiting my grandparents in california)

The stupid part is that I've lived the first 20 years around dogs, cats, monkeys, birds, various rodents including chinchilla, guinea pigs (and I've worked with mice and rats), various birds, reptiles, tarantula, fish etc.

My allergies started getting worse about 25 years ago when I noticed that my eyes would react after playing with "Dummy" (the cat) in Ottawa.

They got progressively worse so that my parents cats in Vancouver would set off my asthma (mild) when I visited. Then in Gothenburg I had an anaphylactic shock to Hobbes (the cat) that almost killed me (no guns ).

Now I'm allergic to dog saliva as well so the hellhounds live in the back garden where they stay semi-wild and arent allowed into the house.

Back in the stone age when I graduated from college, I moved into a place with a buddy whose mother rented it to us when she moved out of town. The house came with a cat. We didn't know the cat's name. Another buddy moved in with a big dog. We wondered how the cat would handle it. On the first day the dog was bouncing around the house and the cat finally noticed she wasn't alone anymore. She calmly walked up behind the dog and raked her claws across his testicles. The dog never messed with her again. We dubbed her "Killer".

Current cats are "Par" and "Bogey"

I used to have this big, black, male cat back in NZ called Caesar. He was a real battler. You could tell when another cat had come onto our property because there would be great big wads of it's fur floating around. The neighbours all used to complain that Caesar was attacking their dogs.

Now, living in NYC, I have two indoor cats - Tigger and Tad. They're both male and were also fixed pretty recently. We were getting a bit worried a couple of weeks before the operation because their little penises were occasionally poking out when they were licking themselves, and they were almost 6 months old. Luckily no spraying got started.

We took them to the Humane Society to get neutered, and they gave us some strange advice. They said we should use shredded newspaper instead of litter for a few days while they heal. This advice turned out to be a very bad idea because Tigger couldn't figure out where his toilet had gone and so he did a big runny one on top of the tent that covers their litter box.

No pictures for us yet GP?

Cali...how nice that you named your kitty after me.

Here's Tigger (orange) and Tad (tabby):
