Now I have another problem with MOO3, other than the tech bug and the slow-down.
I tried to fire up MOO3 today, but now whenever I click on New Game, or when I load up a saved game, I get the DirectX Unavailable screen.
I deleted my old saves, sparing just a few out of like 50 or 70 saved games.
Then I uninstalled, and reinstalled MOO3, then reinstalled the 1.25 patch. I still get the DirectX Surface Unavailable crap again, when I try to click on New Game, or load up a game.
What the hell is going on here? Do I need to reinstall MOO3 but forget the patch? What should I do?

Update: I finally fixed this problem. I manually deleted the whole MOO3 game folder and everything, then reinstalled the game. Then added the patch.
I finally am able to get to the New Game screens with races and customization stuff.
BUT... when I finish all the selections and the game difficulty options like galaxy size, # of players, etc... when the game MAKES the galaxy, after it is done, I get the damn DirectX Surface Unavailable error screen AGAIN.
I tried again, I can access the main menu and all the New Game menus, Load Menus, etc. like normal. But I can't make any new galaxies now. The galaxy doesn't appear anymore, instead it goes right to the blank screen with Direct Not Available.
UGH! What to do? Any ideas or suggestions??

Basically here's what happens every time:
I go to main menu. I click on NEW GAME, then go through all the screens and customization for the games.
When I am finished setting up my race, galaxy, game rules, etc. I click START to begin the game.
The game says "Generating Galaxy" and other stuff like that, BUT... when it's done, the "DirectX Unavailable" screen pops up INSTEAD of the galaxy map / overview.
Hence lies my problem with MOO3.
HOW DO I FIX THIS? ANY SUGGESTIONS?

I fixed the problem.
My MOB files were corrupted, so I did two things.
First, I cleaned my CD to get rid of any dust that may interfere with installation processes...
Then did a complete reinstall, deleted all my old saves, and deleted all MOO3 associated files. Then I did the whole installation and patch thing again.
Presto, problem solved.
Thanks for that link, Woog. It gave me several new insights into bug-fixing for MOO3 in case I come across new ones later on.
Laters.
