	my thumb is numb Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

So I woke up today, and my left arm was numb and tingling, from sleeping on it i guess. Anyway, it took a longer time than usual for the numbness to go away, but slowly, gradually it did. But my thumb, actually just the end of my thumb, is still numb and sort of tingling, and it's been like 9 hours or so. should i be concerned?

Just numb? No swelling or anything else?

If not, then just see how it is when you wake up tomorrow. For now, I don't think it's anything bad, but I'm no expert =)

I am not too sure what causes this, is it just direct pressure on the nerve constricting the axon making propagation difficult or is it due to constriction of the blood supply to the nerve resulting in hypoxia and thus a lack of energy to power the strong changes in ion concentration to conduct a nervous impulse...perhaps if it is the latter in this case you have starved the nerve of oxygen for so long it has died and you will never have feeling in your thumb again I wonder if a thumb without pain has any advantages...you know, like the baddie from The World Is Not Enough. Or could you eventually end up with gangrene?

Your thumb lacked oxygen for to long....some nerves may have died but no worries, they grow back fairly fast. It happenned to me 5 or 6 yars ago. I got an operation and lost feeling in my right foot. More exactly, 2 toes on the right side of my rigth foot because the operation lasted 11 hours and it caused my foot to lack oxygen. I got the feeling back fully after a month.

If its your left arm, take a couple of aspirins and see a doctor. You cant be too careful with heart conditions.

I got my finger caught in a car door and it got cut really bad. It was a door to a mini van and I had a huge gash on my finger. The bleeding stoped and part of my finger above the cut was numb for a few weeks but the nevers grew back and my finger is just fine now. That was a couple of years ago.

If you took too much Nitrous oxide your fine nerve endings can go numb. Take some B vitamins to help stave it off.

I slept on my arm funny once (actually, when I woke that day, my wife was laying full on it) and it was completely numb and swollen.

That particular time, it took a lot longer to get full feeling and use of it than normally. So maybe no big deel. Then again...

(Btw, I have an ear infection that is hurting a lot and won't go away.)

I think you and your thumb may have some underlying, serious relational/communication problems -- your thumb might feel that you're neglecting its feelings, so therapy for you two might be in order.

Don't worry about it, I work at a hospital and this happened to me once. I talked to a doctor about it and he told me not to worry about it unless it persists over more than 1 day.

Next day it was gone.

But, in you case, it could be a tumor.......
