I'm going to be in Monterey, CA for the next three weeks doing predeployment training with the US Army Reserve so here's my leaving forever thread. I'm supposed to deploy for 18 months following New Years but they still haven't told me where I'm going. The powers that be did say "it isn't to where you think" so there's hope that I won't be going to Iraq. Of course even if I don't go to Iraq that still leaves Afghanistan, the former Yugoslavia, Kuwait, or one of the former Soviet republics in either central Asia or the Caucuses.

I値l be back at the end of Nov and I値l be hanging out here through December. I知 also taking a trip to Turkey & Greece during the second week in December so I might be able to meet up with some of you if I have a lay over in western Europe. I知 going to be flying on Luftansa so I値l probably be have some down time in Germany. Have fun while I知 gone.

I'm just going to be spending most of November in northern California so I'll be back here at the beginning of December. I won't be shipping out until January but at least they'll soon be telling me where I'm going to be for the next 1.5 years.

I'm envious of you Oerdin. You at least have some idea what your future holds. My guard unit is stuck in limbo for another month. Our last deployment was cut short for some reason and now we are waiting to see if we get a homeland security assigment, get sent to Iraq with a few thousand of our fellow arkansas guardsmen who are leaving in the next month, or wait here for the next round of deployments. And to think i signed up for three more years of this.

It's all together fitting that when I wanted to go overseas we stayed in oklahoma, and that I figure that since I have met someone that I can see myself getting married to, I will end up going.

Anyway, you have my army ako email address so keep in touch. Who knows, we may end up in the same fanatic filled funland sometime.

18+1 months from the best years of your life wasted for no good reason, just because some moron cheated in the last Presidental election.

One army deployment around the age of 20 is something every man should go through, as long as it's in peace time or a volontary peace keeping mission. But being re-deployed at 25 (or whatever age you are) just because your country is wasting resources on a war of agression is totally crazy.

Stay safe, and don't shoot any innocent civilians just because they don't speak English (such things happen quite often). If you kill a man, his ghost will come back to haunt you in your nightmares even if he was a terrorist who was really asking for it, not to mention the agony you will go through if you later find out he was innocent.
