I'm back Increase the size of your Attachments

As Cam reported in several threads, my computer was struck by a virus and I was forced to nuke it. Happily, none of the files you all have sent me were lost as I rerouted my mail to my office computer. None-the-less, the recovery process is still taking a long time. This is due to the loss of the file that contains many of my FTP passwords and the need to reload several software packages, some of which I no longer have access too.

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

William, what exactly happened? What happened to mine is my C and D harddrives, the C with 3 GB, the D with 1 GB, both suddenly shut down, and I had to purchase completely new harddrives. The guy I called and sent the drives to for Dell said that they were faulty harddrives (they were ones that DID NOT come with the computer) and that I should have just bought new Dell harddrives instead of whatever else I bought. Either that or it could have been a virus. So were you forced to also loose everything on your computer, except for FTPed things (if any)?

I hate computers sometimes...

To be sure, you have to use adequate HD... I use 12 GB HD to prevent damages.

Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

Hmm...Prometeus, what has the HD space to do with damages?

The only thing I can recommend is to use two different HDs, one for backup data only...but I´m sure this idea isn´t new

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

It's only when such disasters strike that you realise the need for regular backup away from your primary hard disk. Happened to me a while back, so it's always backup of data whenever there's been a fair bit of input to floppy and even CD-rom if the size warrants it.
