Similar findings in Spain and Italy, where right wingers were voted into office, but 60% still had an unfavorable view of Bush.

So far from just "commies/greens" opposing Bush, lots of right wingers dislike him too. And people don't dislike Bush because he's right wing, they dislike him (and most other republicans, and quite a few democrats) for their (in our opinion) ignorant and short sighted views on world affairs, for their overt nationalist and religious displays, etc. And this isn't limited to US presidents, guys like Berlusconi are universally dispised as well.

As I said before, Chirac is purely anti-American. It makes no difference who the president is.

When Berlusconi is "equally" despised, I begin to question just how right wing these Bush-haters are. This really is a left-right issue. Bush is not an appeaser of the left. That, more than anything else, is what pisses them off.

Why Putin threw in with the leftists is puzzling, since he too is a hardline anti-terrorist leader. I think it may have had to do with Russia's long time good relations with Saddam. But, now that that is over, Putin and Bush have patched things up. It was Putin, after all, who brokered the 15-0 UNSC resolution in favor of giving the US a mandate in Iraq.

Saint Marcus, I agree that socialists are less extreme Marxists than communists. But they still are against freedom to the extent they are against free enterprise. Now, a person who believes in a social safety-net while supporting free enterprise - well, in the US, that is the very definition of a Republican. So those outside the US who hate Republicans cannot be interested in pro-business capitalism with a social safety net. They must be interested in socialism.

Thanks for the compliment.

Also, you have no idea what the Republican party is all about. Your view of Republicans seems more concruent with a charateracture of Simon Legree. If this were in fact true, I too would hate Republicans, just like you.

These are really funny polls. In the US, using representative samples, Bush has a 55% approval rating. Among young adults, Bush has a 66% approval rating.

You talking about Blair? Well, Blair is fairly conservative on most issues, is he not?

However, the people who hate Republicans are heavily into class warfare in the United States. I assume that this must be true outside the US as well. It just seems that those who believe in class warfarism (the "social-justice" crowd) are in the majority in Europe.

yes, for a leftist. But he's as right-wing as Bill Clinton was!

Not really. Republicans are disliked among non-socialists/greens as well. For different reasons, of course.

in France, right wingers were voted in power. Ditto for Holland, Italy, Spain, etc. The people who voted for them are FAR from being into class warfare. Yet, most of them STILL dislike Republicans. Or at least, the current administration.

So please stop your two dimensional "if you hate Republicans you must be an extremist lefty" argumentation. It just doesn't hold ground in the rest of the world, where rightwingers join moderates and leftwingers in their oposition of the Dubya administration.

No, but YOU must be! I keep getting more and more surprised by the amount of censorship there must be in USA's media! I mean, how much of your 8 o'clock news cover international news, or even nation wide news? It's all local junk news!

European broadcasts are a LOT more complete, with very high levels of accuracy and political independence.

DanS, I'm sorry, but I really can't understand your point.
SM said that Bush's approval rate is only 38%. So? He didn't say 62% are against him! There are always absentees in these kind of polls!!!

I don't remember the last time I heard a poll about Bush's popularity in the US broadcasted here in Portugal, but I do remember it was already below 50%.

We have no 8 o'clock news. hmmmmmmm
You must be confused. We have two distinct types of news shows on the broadcast networks. This does not include the cable news channels like CNN CNBC etc.

One is the local news that is produced locally. It may cover briefly national or international stories, but that's not it's purpose.

Then there is the network news that covers mostly national and international stories with an occasional local story if it's big enough. CBS ABC and NBC. Much more credible than Euros give them credit for.

So it depends on which news broadcasts you're talking about. Get your facts straight before you make biased statements like that.
