Next 8 cities Put an end to popups!

Okay per the chat, here are my preferences for the next 8 cities...

1) 4-4-4-4 of Buffet. Gateway city to the horse and spices. Already a settler heading that way.

2) Either 8 of the wheat or 9-9 of the wheat are good. The 9-9 gives a coast city with immediate access to cattle. This city is a good one for the second city because we will have a worker that can start improving the tiles in the area within two turns without having to move very far.

3) 1 of the horse tile. A worker should be able to road to this area by the time we settle it. Then we can start building either chariots or horsemen.

4) 8 of the silk. On a river with bonus grass, forests, and hills around. Should be able to have a road there by then.

From here on I'm not too picky about the order of settling, this is just thoughts.

5) A gamble, but could secure a southern chokepoint and then we can backfill in later on.

6) Either one of these is good for long term production once we get into a better government.

7) Takes advantage of the last cattle tile, the fish, and the bonus grass all in one.

8) Kloreep's original proposal. If it's settled before this, that's fine too.

Okay, who's next?

Increase Your PM Length

I'd like to move 3 SE this way we can access more lake for commerce, and there's more room for a city west of 3. Otherwise western placement looks good to me.

I have a different scheme in mind for the east, though. I agree with the furs, but I regard Buffet as temporary in the end. Thus, I think we should build a city E-SE of Chow; if we disband both Chow and Buffet in the future, we can have OCP with these cities, and for now, we pack cities tightly around our palace.

I'll see if I can post my alternate version of the east later today.

That was quicker to finish than I thought.

Here's my proposal. No particular order in mind right now. Maybe the next settler should go to the southernmost P by the wheat to claim the bottleneck, and I'd like to see the furs settled by the settler built either before or after that.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Both of these look really good and will lead us to a dominating position. My only concern is that we have no city to take advanatge of the incense. We could perhaps do this through a colony or such.

I would like to see the site NW of Buffet founded sometime earlier on the list than 8, as Rhoth suggests. It will be a low corruption site, and I don't think we have to worry about anyone encroching past the peninsual chokepoint in the near future.

Settling earlier than 8 is fine with me. I wasn't too picky about the order of 5-8. If it's settled even before that, it's fine too, since we'll be settling all those cities sooner or later anyway. The other civs are too far away to seriously encroach on anything but the chokepoint.

Regarding Aggie's point, yes we have been planning on sending a worker to road up there and establish a colony in the future. City sites aren't very good up there so a colony is much better unless someone else decides to settle up there...but that's kind of a declaration of war in and of itself.

I haven't bothered posting a map because a) I am lazy b) I have forgotten how to post print screens and c) I think that there are some really good ideas for city sites already

From the latest turns (1675 and 1650bc) we can clearly see MAST's outer borders - and given the close proximity of Sunshine and Latin Lover, I agree with Zargon's suggestion in chat that we might want to stake out that eastern narrows fairly soon and backfill in from there (might even fool some of the civs as to where our core area really is )

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Crazy as this sounds, I might suggest the southernmost P on Kloreep's map as our next city. It will fufill two functions:

-Iron access
-Landbridge blockage. Our borders will cover all but 1 tile, which we can block with a warrior. No one will be able to go further north without violating our territory.

Suffering from ads?

Looking at the situation, I'd like to settle the furs next, then the horses after that, then spices, and then the chokepoint fourth. Perhaps even fifth if we can get irrigation down to those plains resources soon.

The furs gives us production. We can always use production, and the furs site should be able to get up to 5spt, enough to build a 20-shield unit every 4 turns. With this site up and running at 5 spt and Buffet at 10 spt, we shouldn't need another barracks for a while; our other cities can focus on workers, temples, and perhaps a catapult or settler here or there.

If Planter proceeds to road a path S, SW, and S again to the horse, the 1425 settler from Chow would be nicely timed to arrive in the area just as the horse road was completed. The spices settler would overshoot the worker just slightly, but spices will help us grow to size 6 (and, in combination with an eventual incense hookup, reduce reliance on MP).

That the south open to the fourth settler. By the time that settler is completed, we can road all the way S-S-SE-S-S-S to just NE of the chokepoint site. With the road, reinforcements can be much quicker to arrive should someone attack. (And those reinforcements might even include a horse or two.)

We need the road to the chokepoint to even consider iron connection anyway. However, this order does leave the area S of our core open to other's exploration.
