Ahem,
A nice pic of our territory and units, just to remember where we stand...?
Thanks.

I do mean to take a snapshot or two each turn, but my connection at home is crappy, and just browsing through 'poly to update the turn thread, the save game thread, and then upload/link screenies can take a surprising amount of time. That said, I was a big fan of screenshots when I was trying to follow what GS was doing before I had myself added to the save list, because I most often browse 'poly from a better, faster connection, um, elsewhere, where I do not have a copy of the game installed (bad, bad, bad idea).
So, basically, my response is: I will try to do screenshots when I play turns, and so will Cort I think, but it may not happen every turn. As he said, the best way is to load up the turn and play along (although I admit, sometimes I'm a bit vague on the movements of our warrior pickets and northern scout).

I'm not expecting pics every turn, but now and then it would make me better understand where we are standing (I know, the Master Plan...).
As for the save list, I thought I was in (I gave my e-mail, that is), but since I don't get anything, I suppose I still have to do something, but what?
I agree with you, if I could receive the save every turn or so, I woudn't need any pics.

Rcvd Wheel and Philosophy from Python.
Discover Code of Laws. sent to Python accepted.
Silesia builds Warrior,
CoS builds Archer who goes 369 onto hills north of Izzardia where he can explore the final dark mountain next turn.
Archer coming in 3 turns in Burundy, and Barracks in 4 turns in Swindon. We might want to decide what to build next in Cos and Silesia next - ordered workers in both for now.
Settler team moves 2
Farley Roads
Northern scout plus Jungle & Monkey warrior lookouts do their kukuracha (sp) shuffling-about type thing looking for barbs.
Order of Peace :
8 Warriors
1 Archer
2 Scouts
4 Workers
1 Settler
Total 16, allowed 20.
1st in pop, 2nd in GNP and Land, 3rd in mfg and productivity. Monkey are no longer building a wonder.
and finally ...
Mysticism!
(party smiley whatever that is)
- from the Souther Scout who moves 1,1 and also sees Ivory.
Slider set to 10,0,0 for Republic in 32 turns, -1gpt, 152g

Yeah, the Plan calls for roading the wine hill, then moving "2" onto the bonus grass (though I called it 1, 2, 6, IIRC, which gets us to the same tile). Road, mine, move to other bonus grass next to Silesia. Road, mine.
So it's possible we could get down to ~25 turns. Not sure, though, how much a few extra commerce/turn will really effect things, because Republic is a very expensive tech. So I was being conservative with the 30 turn estimate.
I was thinking of building several veteran spears, yeah. And then some horsemen, probably. Non-barracks cities can toss in some catapults here and there. But I think most of our production will be non-military. I think we've just got to gamble on "peace in our time" for quite a while.
I have to keep that firmly in mind when dealing with Monkey...
Nice Monkey. Nice Monkey.

Indeed.
I've been thinking about this. First, our other neighbours. We don't know what team Python think, but so far through SR they have been a positive trading partner, seemingly sharing our goal of a mutually peaceful tech alliance.
They are committed to full-power research and have delivered (with uncanny co-ordination) in step with ourselves. Why should they wish to change this, when SR has recognised that we need to keep pace with a possible four-way tech team on another continent?
Also, SR has stated on a public forum that he's enjoying this game, which hopefully means he's enjoying the playstyle, and wishes to continue likewise, as we do.
What's this got to do with Monkey? Well, I think we should be trying to formalise relations with both neighbours to ensure an international rep hit to any party messing up our scientific paradise, and to help dissuading Monkey from favouring a pointed-stick strategy. A possible security arrangement with Python could help deter Monkey - perhaps as tech payment.
If Monkey turned out alright, maybe they could be our eventual 'hired goons', providing a pointed-stick element to a powerful uber-alliance. Crazy maybe, but thinking about things like this is what makes this game such fun
I'd rather risk getting tw*tted playing a strat like that for the fun of it than build a stodgy army to conventionally deter our neighbours and deliver only average research and be only an average civ.
As Eddie would say .. "we're a CAN do Civ!"

I agree with, well, your entire post. I noticed SR's comment too, and it pleased me, both because I consider him a friend and because it bodes well for future English Comedy Team relations.
Monkey are never going to match the commercial output of Python or CoD. What they can do is beat on someone. We just need to do our best to make sure it isn't us. I'm mentally preparing myself for possibly gifting republic to the Monkeys. We want them in that government anyway (oh, if this was Conquests would we EVER), and it's a very valueable tech, so I would hope they would really appreciate it.
I really want our 3-team alliance to go deep into the game, with a coordinated intercontinental assault being launched from our shores. I would LOVE to just show up unannounced with a massive invasion fleet, and just set about butchering the Sunshiners or the MASTers or somebody. I also really hope they aren't in galley range. Even close to it, so a suicide run could do it. I want to wait until AT LEAST Astronomy, preferably Navigation, before we make contact with the others.
The notion of a "Grand Alliance" appeals to me. I think it also appeals to SR.
