	Can you play Conquests in a window? Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Can you play Conquests in a window? That is, not full screen? Silly, I suppose, but very important to me. Civ2 (I think) allowed for window play.

You can add:

KeepRes=1

to the .ini file

This will cause civ3 to play at your desktop resolution windowed.

Sorry but it doesn't play windowed. Keepres makes it use your default desktop resolution...but still full screen.

In fact I was looking for a way to play it windowed too.

Well I use two monitors, Civ plays full screen in one and I have the other one for other apps. The alternative is Alt-Tab'ing between running apps.

Nice....my desktop (the real one - not the one in windows) is not large enough for that, though.

But a great option, if it's feasible

What I do instead of Alt-Tab is hit the Windows key to bring up the start menu and, in the process, the taskbar. Then I can select the task to switch to the same way I normally do. (I always run with taskbar auto-hide on, so I'm not sure whether that would work with it off.)

A couple more caveats: I'm running Win2K, so I can't guarantee it would work the same in other Windows versions. Also, I don't have Conquests yet; my experience so far is with the original Civ3 and PtW.

I seem to remember in CivIII (PTW as well IIRC) that you could force it to play at a resolution lower then your monitor.

This would effectively create a "windowed" Civilisation but without the minimise, maximise and exit buttons on the top left corner.

Is this not a method? (cant for the life of me remeber how i did it though...)

I've never heard of anyone successfully forcing Civ(or any kind) to run window. Yes you can force it to run in different resolutions, but it always goes to full screen at that resolution. But if you have detailed instructions on how you windowed Civ then please post them.

I used to do this ( handy for quick PBEM games), but changed back to Nathans'(nbarclay) way .
The windows works better on Civ3 then any other game I know

I play it at work at times too.

I just end up alt+tab ing in and out of Civ 3. It works really well for me on my laptop. I agree it would be very nice if you could window it.

depends upon what you mean by windowed mode, but if you set

KeepRes=1
VideoMode=1024

and then set you moniter to 1280 (or whatever), Civ3 will stay in a (non-traditional) window. That's how I play...
