Year/turn settings Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

Has anyone played with these within the context of the epic game? I find that the default settings tends to be less than ideal in terms of a "realistic" outcome of years. I, for one, think the "middle ages" lasts far too long yearwise, so that by 1600 AD I'm already in the modern age. I was wondering if anyone had tweaked these settings to give better results. It would be nice if I could advance to the different eras at roughly the right years!

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

That's usually because of higher difficulty levels and I suspect this purposely done by design ( conspirary theory nr523316588454 coming up )

If you play your first ever Civ game, you are likely to do it on chieftain and get 'realistic' era versus date results. that person might think to himself, "hey cool"
However, when that same person is playing at monarch or higher several months later, he's hardly even going to notice or even care, is he.

You can change the increments in turns/date as far as I know through the editor.

I know you can change them, I was wondering what people did to change them. I tried some adjustments, and must have woefully miscalculated, as one had me reaching tanks in 1480 AD, and another had me in industrialization by 3400 AD... oops!

Suffering from ads?

Sure that has to do with changing the editor and not your eugh quality of play?

Anyway, its going to pretty though to get this right, since you would have to adjust for some settings too.
Pangea usually leeds to a much 'faster' game whereas setting for max archippelago will make trade go alot slower.
Not to mention the number of civs etc...

Well, good luck I guess

Frankly, I sortof wish they'd eliminate the years altogether and just number it by turns. Or perhaps start at year "0" and go on from there, like the Jewish calendar.

IIRC (I'm at work and can't confirm) - can't you also get a turn display counting up from 0, by clicking on the year counter in the main view - then again, this may have been a CTP feature. - I just know it existed in some Civ or Authorized Variant

I don't really see how this would affect the game. The years thing is just a little extra thing that doesn't actually touch game mechanics AFAIK.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Just lower the difficulty settings and reduce enemy AI to decrease tech trading influence

It doesn't, it just adds to the atmospere. Just as unit animation does and other things.

I remember having several Civ2 games (prince level) that saw the beginning of the modern age around the late 1700s. I guess that science progresses normally according to the players skill level.

Take me for example. I'm lucky if I get to the beginning of the modern age in C3C by 1950AD!

Cookie Monster as you may know the funny thing is that as you move up in difficulty, the research goes faster. This is due to the AI driving with their bonus. If you play at the lowest levels, you will have to do almost all of the research.

Get a bigger avatar today!

That would seem right vmxa1, I played my first C3C game on warlord because I hadn't played Civ since shortly after it came out.

My years were pretty good(accurate). I explored and colonized remote islands in the 1500's I industrialized on time, and I got tanks and aircraft in the early 1900's. I got into the modern era around 1950 shortly after I won with a conquest victory.

I did almost no tech trading, I was ahead for the whole game.

Yeah, note how I said "it would be nice." As was said, it's pretty much an atmosphere thing. I think it would be cool to work out on each difficulty setting what the best year/turn ratios should be to achieve advances at roughly the right time. There's just something wrong with sending my panzers into France in 1750.
