Presidential Campaign Wars Got spare money?

Imagine the hiliarious scenario that could be made with this "subject"

You could have objectives count as electoral college votes.
Small civs could be Greens,Reform,Libertarian etc
Unit possibilties are endless.DNC lawyers,GOP spokesmen etc
Special units could include a Baker unit for GOP and Christopher unit for Democrats
Events could include all types of things.Recounts, irregularites, absentee ballots etc

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Great Idea!

You could use an electoral map, and have events, maybe, around the bribing of certain key cities, like

Republicans Bribe Miami Triggers:

"In a brilliant show of political knowledge, the Republican party has convinced a judge to throw out the votes of every Democrat in Miami. In a victory parade, Bush enters town riding on an M1A1 Tank."

Or such silliness.

Love to see where you go with this!

This would make interesting scenario, be it for just the Florida matter or for the entire election as a whole. I think that the election as a whole could be well depicted. There could be one city per electoral vote. That would make for 538 cities though, which is a bit much. It might be better to have objective points be electoral votes, and most of the cities would be major objectives, some with wonders, and with a few minor objective cities as filler.

Some Ideas:

If a city went into civil disorder, it would be considered as too close to call in the polls, making it vulnerable to advertising by the opposition. Happiness wonders could be replaced with things like "Energized Base" or "Social Security Scare Tactics."

Technologies could be things like "Union Support" which would trigger the creation of Union Election Worker units for capturing cities. The Republicans could have units like NRA Voters or Christian Coalition Members, given mostly by technologies.

Technologies would represent the earning of key support from interest groups for the election.

Advertising units would replace diplomats, enabling advertising (bribing) in cities to swing them to one side or the other. Advertising would be very expensive, and the units rather costly.

Cities would use the Nemo "no food" technique and would generate only shields, shields which could be spent on things to help the candidate's local base, like Local Rallies, Yard Signs, Billboards, and the like, on national things like wonders which would represent the garnering of interest group support, or on fundraising (Capitalization), which would enable more advertising and thus the capture of more cities. The player would have to achieve a careful balance between the three to attain victory. Whoever held the majority of electoral votes (objectives) on election day would win the scenario.

Unfortunately, I don't think that the AI could handle something like this. It might make for a good two person multiplayer scenario though.

An interesting concept, I must say.

Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

I've been thinking about this exact thing.

Diplomats or negative ads or something like that would be the only units and you could "buy" cities in america using "political capital"

Each city would represent a state and it's electoral votes or a couple of cities could represent states that split the vote.

Now, The question is how would you determine the winner? Objectives or regular civ points?

Yes I was thinking it would make a great multiplayer scenario. You could have more than one candidate...

I was going to start this scenario tonight and I hope to be done by Saturday

(In fact I've already downloaded the map)

I'll be doing this in FW if I can.

Sorry to break it to you Scott but the max. number of cities in 256 on any map. What you could do is make each electoral vote 1 objective, and set some 3 vote states as a single city with an OBJECTIVEx3.

Now that I've read your post again, that statement is nullified. Anyhow, maybe we could get caravans into this, maybe as a mobile "fundraising machine" or something like that. I doubt that the poor AI would be able to manage all this. I suppose that it would only be feasible on multiplayer.

Well I played around with the idea this afternoon and figured out that some things would be infeasable in FW, I could do them in ToT, but not FW... since I don't wanna do this in ToT I'm going to let somebody else do the project.

Suffering from ads?

I would love to see someone do this scenario, whether it's for ToT, FW, or whatever

You could, for example, break down the newsflashes in the article above into various events, for interesting warfare *eg*

Darth-What problems, per se, did you run into doing it in FW? I've been thinking about doing a MGE version, and maybe a ToT expansion of that, with bigger events...are you at all interested in this? I'd like to try, maybe as a colaboration.... ?

Smash, Scot, and Co.-Anyone interested? Any suggestions?

If none of you are interested in doing this, could you at least email me some of your ideas, etc.?

Personally, I think "topical" scenarios are just doomed to failure. It takes so long to produce a really good scenario that by the time you finished this thing everyone will either 1) Be sick to death of the subject or 2) Have lost all interest in it. How many of you are just raring to play that "Impeachment" scenario?

What kind of scenario would "Impeachment" be, anyway? Gigantic floor fight between Republicans and Democrats in congress?

Hmm, that isn't such a bad idea, come to think of it...

Kull-I disagree, for three main reasons:

1. This would be an election scenario, and, as such, is blessed with replayability, with minor tweaks, for any national election. You could turn it out into the 1996 or 2004 elections easily...

2. To my knowledge, the closest things done to this were the Modern Civil War Scenarios (New England, whole US, etc), and Dracon's Aussie Civil War...none of these, imho, were flops...

3. If I did this, I would want a scenario to do with low expectations, because that is the real chance for greatness. No one expected ANOTHER good WW2 scenario when Red Front came along...no one thought OCC was possible...ToT seemed dead at first...these are the places you can rise to glory, not in repeating other's successes, IMHO.

That said, I'd love to get together with, or hear from, anyone interested in such a project. Failing that, I'll try on my own

No, it's fairly safe to say that bush has won, unless Gore should pull a miracle out his ass in contesting the results. It does not really matter what happens on Friday unless the court swings to Bush. (Cases do not drag along for a month in the SC... they get a day, tops).

Yeehaw, you really can buy an election!!!
(I'm overall refering to Bush, but the same would naturally apply to Gore). And freedom of speech? Give ol dubya a few months and I'm sure he'll try to take care of that Nuissance.

Using Electoral Votes as objectives would be great, The capitol would be the only city in each state, and the rest would be filled with population or fanatics for each candidate (although I feel bad for those who would actually be a fanatic for either of the major ticket idiots). You could have campaign tactics be special attacks. Ex. Gore could be the only one with spy units, and he could frighten Greens into joining his side using the bribe unit function. I don't know what the others could do, but I'm sure there's something!
