	US gunship hits 'Iraqi militants' Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

US troops in a helicopter gunship have killed seven Iraqis suspected of preparing rocket attacks on a US base in northern Iraq, the US military says.

First time I have seen a coalition success reported by the beeb in a long time.

OK, I know it is a small victory but as they say, attack is the best form of defence and hopefully Operation Iron Hammer is the beginning of this new philosophy!

Time to stop acting like sitting ducks and actually take the war to the Ba'athists and Al Qaeda - though more troops and not less might be a help...

That is exactly right, our forces over there are not police, but with the growth of the Iraqi forces police and military to a combined strength of 100,000 our forces which are made for offense can go back on the offense. This should continue to the point if even a rocket launcher is picked up, the carrier is killed.

Well my view is that there should have been enough forces over there to have allowed US forces to remain on the offense, despite policing duties etc in the first place!

Maybe less people would have died so far and Iraq wouldn't be in the mess it still is now.

Anyway, hopefully the Iraqi forces are beginning to pick up the slack - but I still think more men are needed in the short term to make the insurgents' lives hell.

I actually think this goes without saying! If anything but this is happening, then no wonder the US and allies are suffering such relatively heavy casualties lately.

If there is critiszm it should be that, we did not have the right amout of "correct" troops or personal to deal with the day-to-day policing problems, unfortunately it cost too many lives to learn this lesson.
