Here is my rough draft of the Monkey invasion. The more we focus on military for the next 1000 years, the better it will go. I would like to see every city except C and CX building military.
Phase 1: Build a road
We need a road, or it will take much too long for our army to reach Monkey Land. The red line in the picture is my proposed route. I tried to give CoD as much room as possible, since we will end up building cities along the road.
I would like 2 workers and 2 guard units to start building the road immediately.
Phase 2: Build an outpost
Once our road reaches the Monkey border, we must build a city to protect our units, claim the territory, and generally annoy the monkeys. The outpost should be built around 1000BC.
I would like 1 settler, 2 spearmen, 2 swordmen, and 1 catapult to guard the outpost.
Phase 3: Build an army
We should be doing this all along, but most of our units will remain near home until we switch to Republic. We can move our units south during the anarchy.
I would like 15-25 swordmen, 5 horsemen, 3 spearmen, and 2 more catapults for the invasion. And we absolutely must have help from CoD.
I don't recommend doing swordman upgrades until we have Currency. So most of our units will be built from scratch. Once we have Currency we can disconnect or trade away the iron and send some warriors to be upgraded in the outpost.
Estimated time for attack: 600 BC

I'm not too worried about barbarians, with our swordmen patrolling the road. I see a few locations (like the fish hill) that would be good for cities. So we could hide the road under cities for a while.
I think we should discuss this with CoD as soon as possible. The above plan is designed to catch the monkeys before they are able to build a large defense.
If CoD is unable to mobilize by 600BC, we would need to wait for Feudalism. But we can still do a settler flood of the southern continent while we are waiting.

See how this route looks, Dave. By my count, and guessing that south of the forest, we have Grass->Hill->Mtn, that gives us 5 or 6 flat tiles (depending on where we terminate the road), 3 Hill/Forest tiles and 4 Mountain/Jungle tiles to road. That's two extra 3x tiles, but 6 or 7 fewer flat tiles and one fewer 2x tile to road, and a two turn move difference. The cow gives us a decent city spot about midway, too.
Of course, it's 3 am as I post this, so somebody double check me, please.

An eastern route would be more efficient, but CoD has a much stronger claim to the territory it passes through. This will involve lots of negotiation, and I doubt we would get the cow.
My vision of the post-war continent is Python getting the north and south while CoD gets the center. Claiming a road on the west coast helps us reach this position without immediately bothering CoD.
The alternative is to build a strong alliance immediately, in which case a direct road makes sense.

Monkey War Plan - the Diplo Side
Every sucessful war has two sides: military combat, and diplomatic finesse. We need both to defeat the monkies.
As I see it, we need two elements to come together for the war to be sucessful: CoD and damage control.
1. CoD: Any war with Monkey must have the prerequisite of getting CoD on our side. It would be most beneficial to have them as allies, though at a minimum we need them to sign a Non-Aggresion Pact (NAP) with us.
Having them as allies would help us in later stages of the diplomatic operation. Our action won't appear as unilateral to other nations, giving our cause some justice. They can also help in our attempts to blame Monkey for their own undoing.
At least a NAP is essential. We need a guarentee that our southern flank will be safe as the majority of our forces carry out the offensive against Monkey positions. If CoD turns on us, unless we've got a great back-up plan, we're screwed.
The part that's got me worried is the convincing of Izzardia to join our cause. We could say 'Better that we attack Monkey instead of you,' though this could put a damper on our relations post-war. It seems otherwise difficult to fight their logic. Anyone with better ideas?
2. Damage Control: For one, we want to hide the purpose of our war road. Promise trade agreements (with easy ways out for us) in the future that would involve this road to Monkey.
The following assumes that Monkey will eventually meet up with another team down south. When we attack Monkey, they will go crying to someone else. If we can get Izzardia to ally with us, then other nations will be deterred by the thought of fighting both of us, another reason why it's essential for us to ally. It's all too important to shift the blame from us to Monkey (as blatant agreesors never look good). Again, this may be difficult: I know from personal experience that the victims of an outright attack can gain strong allies quickly. We've got to watch Monkey like a hawk, to watch for them to trip up diplomatically. Once we find an excuse, go to war.
Either way, I'd like to have the the C.O.WAR.D. draw up plans for emergency defense in case of attack from the south. Plans for the north can wait until we meet somoene up there.
I'll also remind our war planners that the sooner and faster the war takes place and ends, the better. We want Monkey to be out of the picture before the apes have a chance of meetings another team. If they do, we could be screwed.

I agree with this, and do think we'll need the western road for empire development. The eastern road, if possible vis a vis CoD, would buy us time, though, to build the western one at our convenience, rather than having to have it for the invasion.
The eastern road may also be easier to sell as a trade route, and if we disclose our western road plans, more or less vaguely, to CoD, it may put their minds more at ease. Diplomatically, we need to also use our dependence on CoD for horses to allay concerns, imo.

The chances of getting CoD on our side are very slim. To be honest, I'm slowly getting sick of Arrians peacenick behavior.
What about attacking them instead of Monkey? They don't have iron, enough said. We don't have horses, but the way is not very far, we could get along with swordsmen.
What does the C.O.WAR.D. say?

Sneak attacking CoD is clearly the best and most logical strategy. But we voted against it before. We can still grab the monkeys land without their help, it will just take longer.
If we do decide to attack them, we should begin research on Republic with 1 scientist once we finish Mathematics.
