	Sengoku Shugun upgrade?? Put an end to popups!

I am unable to upgrade my Daimyo to a shogun in the Sengoku conquest.

A right click on him offers a civilopedia definition for a shogun-1, but no "upgrade" button appears when he is on a city with a barracks. I have higher shogun techs, and plenty of $$$, but even when I try using keyboard shortcuts - it tells me I donnot have a single shogun-1 to upgrade.

What's the problem?
Also, it says I donnot have a single shogun-1 -- firstly, isn't your starting Daimyo considered a shogun-1? & secondly, to the "single" reference, can you have more than 1 shogun? I don't see how.

Someone shed some light on this please!!!

shugun upgrades cost gold, just like unit upgrades. So it is 3gold/shield difference between shugun-1 to shugun-2

I can't remember the cost when I did my upgrade, but it was between 50-100 gold

The upgrades also require resourses. From 1 to 2 you need iron.

I have iron and hundreds of $$$, still not able to uprgade. I'm doing everything the civilopedia says you have to do in order to be able to upgrade, still not even able to upgrade to shogun-2

Reread your original post and you seem to meet all the requirements:

Tech
Gold
Barracks

Instead of looking for an "Upgrade" button, trying pressing the "U" key and see if that works.

Can you upgrade your ashiguru to bushi in the same city your shogun is in?

I want to see a screenshot of the city in which you are attempting the upgrade. Something definitely isn't right.

I can upgrade all other military units to whatever my tech allows in any city with a barracks, & I have tried upgrading my Daimyo in every city that has barracks including the capitol - no luck. I don't know how to get a screenshot in Civ3.

More important is to post the save. BTW, depending on what the level of Shogun tech you have, you may need up to 600 gold to do the upgrade.

I hate to be a thread necro, but I'm having this exact problem, myself. (Before anyone says it, I obviously used search or this thread would have stayed dead. :-P )

I have the tech to get Shogun-5.
My daimyo is currently Shogun-1.
He's in my capital, which is my only city with a barracks.
The city does indeed have access to iron.
Other units (ashigarou) are able to upgrade normally.

My save game with this problem can be found here.

Any help would be most appreciated. Meanwhile, I'll keep dredging through old posts for a solution.

You don't have enough gold. Look at the Shogun shield costs; the Shogun-1 is 0 shields, the Shogun-5 is 60 shields. 60*3=180 gold to upgrade.
