Lies, Damned Lies and Publishing.... Support Apolyton, buy Call to Power 2

quote:

SECOND ADD-ON ALMOST EVERYWHERE
(14 November 2003, 23:52 | Civ3) The co-Producer on Civilization III: Conquests, Firaxis Games` Jesse Smith, today sent out a note to several fansites in the CivIII community reminding that the [rest of the world] or ROW version of the expansion has been released today -- with one exception: Asia.

It is not known what is causing this delay or when interested Asian CivIII players can obtain a copy of C3C within their local market. C3C is the second add-on for the game after Play The World. The other company involved in the former`s development is BreakAway Games. - DanQ

No... no it isn't. And it frankly bothers me that the co-producers themselves aren't aware of the fact that their game, released on the 14th of November in the entire world ( except Asia ) won't be available in UK stores until the 21st. This lack of accurate publishing information worries me far more than any kind of delay ever could.

Unless I'm wrong - has anyone in the UK got it yet? I've checked the Glasgow and East Kilbride Games ( three in total ), the Glasgow Virgin, the Glasgow GForce and HMV ( as if! ) but none of them can help me with the exception of one Game employee who seems to be on the ball who tells me that other people had been asking about it earlier that week ( the only Game employee incidently who never tried to convince me that I was thinking of Civ3 Gold edition ). We checked his listings and as far as Game ( Electronics Boutique ) know, the release is now scheduled for the 21st.

While this makes sense vis-a-vis the whole 'We MUST release games on a Friday' mad British thinking WHY doesn't anyone from Firaxis ( seemingly ) know about it?

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I feel your pain, as C3C is not out in Oz/NZ either. I am a little puzzled at the inaccurate news as well, but then that item came from a Firaxian rather than as a press release, so it's possible there was a miscommunication somewhere, or that local distributors are to blame and there is little the publishers/designers can do about that.

Let's just keep calm and watch out for a rational explanation.

But that said, any more news on release dates for the UK, NZ or Oz would be GREATLY appreciated.

Put an end to popups!

I don't know about you antipodeans but it's hugely unlikely that - having missed the 14th - any UK store will retail it prior to the 21st. AFAIK it's some stupid law restraining them so with the exception of smaller stores - which tend not to get brand new games immediately anyway - it looks like pickings will not be had till the next Friday.

Is there a set date for Oz/NZ releases? If not it could simply be a physical release problem ( the ship had to stop to chase a big-ass white whale in the Pacific etc ) which has kept you from your civvin'.

The set date was originally the 4th, then the 14th. That has come and gone, and some local retailers still say the 18th (here's hoping!). but it would be the first time I have heard of a game that wasn't released here on Thursday or Friday.

Keep in mind that the producers of video games have squat for control over release dates on their games unless they are also the publisher. In this case, its all in the hands of Atari(Infogrames). So, if the info on release dates that Firaxis has is bad, its probably because they were given poor or inaccurate info by Atari.

Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

I have ordered it from Amazon UK 4 weeks ago and even if I am not on rush I haven't yet received it.

I suppose the cause it is not Amazon but the release date.

This is a major and unjustified mistake that will declare to the entire globe how much fake is the press info of Civ 3 managed by fireaxis.

An error hardly tolerated from me

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

Gameplay pushed their listed release date back to the 21st early last week.

The main reason I pre-ordered is that I knew I would want the game and that way I will get it and be somewhat frustrated over the delay, rather than totally pissed off having chased around to try and get one.

BUMP!

w00t!!!

Game stores in the UK should have it in stock - the one in East Kilbride does - but they're not supposed to sell it till the 21st. The store near where I work just figured 'fudge it' and put the game out on the shelves anyway.

I'm sure if you brow-beat them enough they'll deign to sell you it.

Now you must excuse me... I'm off to conclusively proove the superiority of French liberalism over the tired old Monarchies of Europe. No one shall stand in my way! Vive la revolution!

Holland will not have it before december 1st!
Why this delay ??
I would say: give a date that will hold and don't delay time after time.
But as usual: we've to wait and hopefully I can play it before X-mas

I'm living in Asia . In India . In one of the more backward states (we have an irregular power supply , dammit) . In a city with NO game stores of any type . So I don't usually get originals here .

And still I'm getting it before it is released in Europe , thanks to a kind aunt of mine living in the US . I'm getting it in about five days . How's that for 'Against all Odds' .

Hm, I don't know how long I'll have to wait for it. All major game sites here in Brazil don't say a word about Conquests being released here so far. And the major shopping sites don't offer it as well.

I suspect I'll only be able to get it past December 10th.

Seriously though, if that IS the case just drive across to either Belguim or Germany and buy a copy there.
