Oilers thump battered Blackhawks
WebPosted Wed Nov 19 00:14:45 2003
CBC SPORTS ONLINE - Radek Dvorak enjoyed one of his most productive nights as an Edmonton Oiler.

Dvorak posted one goal and two assists to lead the Oilers to a 5-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks before 16,839 fans at the Skyreach Centre on Tuesday.

Edmonton is 6-2-2-0 over its past 10 outings.

Jarret Stoll, Ethan Moreau and Raffi Torres had the other goals for the Oilers (9-7-2-0).

Mike York added two assists.

Ty Conklin turned aside 33 shots for his fourth win in five starts since No. 1 goaltender Tommy Salo bruised a hip.

Mark Bell paced the Blackhawks (6-8-4-2) with a goal and an assist, while Scott Nichol also scored.

Chicago, which was minus Eric Daze, Jocelyn Thibault and Alexei Zhamnov, is now winless in six (0-3-1-2).

Rookie Michael Leighton made 25 saves in his 15th NHL appearance.

Edmonton opened the scoring with a power-play goal as Dvorak tapped home Ales Hemsky's cross-crease pass for his second goal of the campaign at 10:35 of the first period.

Stoll stuffed in a Jason Smith rebound for his third and a 2-0 lead at 13:07.

Moreau made it 3-0 only 1:17 later when he pounced on a Nichol turnover to whisk in his sixth, unassisted.

Chicago answered back with a pair of second-period goals, Bell's third and Nichol's second at 6:55 and 13:23, respectively.

But Torres tallied his eighth when Leighton misplayed his low slap shot from the sideboards at the 9:53 mark.

Dvorak then completed the scoring with his second of the night into an empty net with 1:25 remaining.

**********************************

I was at this game tonight, and MAN, did the Blackhawks look horrible.

Mike Smith really destroyed that fabled Original 6 franchise, didn't he?

I mean, with Daze and Zhamnov out, the team is just looking that much worse.

Why don't you Chicagonians rise up and demand an improvement?

Show those stingy owners what's what!

I tell you what, we'll trade you Salo & Comrie for Ruutu and Anderson. Straight-up. Come ON!

Actually, that's exactly right.

Um... But I swear, SWEAR, we have actual Canadian black people up here!

I... just can't think of any at the moment.

There's... Bryan Chiu! He's a Chinese-Canadian football player! That's minority-tastic!

And hey, sometimes the minor leagues are more exciting. We get to see the talent when they're still young and fresh.

I hope those bastards in Kansas City at least make good use of Ricky Ray!

Chicago isn't really a hockey town, even if the Blackhawks have traditionally a pretty good team.

Since we're discussing Hockey, what's up with the stupid Won-Loss records? It's bad enough that y'all are proud to settle for a tie, but what is that extra number in there? The tiebreaker? Why don't y'all just play the game until somebody scores?

What about Ben Johnson, runner?

Here's a list of 10 famous Black Canadians. Not a very distinctive group, especially when compared to a corresponding list of their American counterparts, is it?

Win, losses, ties and losses in overtime. You still get a point for the last one.
There's a 5 mins. sudden death period of overtime asfter a tie in regulation, with each team playing with only 4 forwards.

I think you mean 4 players. They still usually have 2 defensemen out their with the 2 forwards.

But yeah, I love the OL rule.

Well, as for Ben Johnson: I figured mentioning a guy who went down in a steroid scandal was not the best way to exemplify Canadian blacks.

Which reminds me, we are also home to The World's Fastest (Formerly) Man: Donovan Bailey! And many other top-notch track-and-field stars*!

* Who immigrated here from the Carribean**.

** Much like singing sensation Sean Paul, actually.

I have heard of none of those. But that McCoy guy sounds pretty important! Good for him.

Ahem.

But we also have a black Canadian guy playing in the NBA now... 'Cept I can't remember his name... Hm...

Ooooh, there's always hockey players! Anson Carter, Georges Laraque, and Jarome Iginla are all proud black Canadians (well, Jarome's half-native, but still...).

They already have in the only way they can... they have stoped showing up for games, and nobody watchs the FEW STINKING AWAY GAMES that are televised (the moron Wirtz still won't televise home games) It used to be tough to get a Hawks ticket... now, the scalpers on the street can't give them away.
