Bah! All those legends about Amazons slicing off a breast and killing male infants is just that, legend! Besides, how the heck would you staunch the gush of blood from the gaping hole left in one's chest after slicing off a breast? Not quick enough to stave off death, I bet! |
I think with fire...
quote: If anything, the Amazons simply binded their breast(s) when necessary. And, according to the legends, they only killed males if they didn't impregnate them with female infants (and even then, not always). |
Actually there must have been a reason they were all female and not a male to be found in their midst
But I was refering to the males with whom they had sex to reproduce... after the sex... "shwessh" to the neck and thank you for your services
Actually I know very little about the Amazons but things don't look pretty
But it could be that there are many legends in that.
There was a study recently which put into question wether the Spartans really threw over the Keadas, which is a short of a chasm or mountain, all the babies that were handicapped so as to keep only the robust healthy onces. Like homosexuality. Spartans killed any member of their society who was found to be homosexual. Where did that homosexuality myth about the Spartans begun in the west, I don't know. Maybe some researchers liked to swing the other way.

Know any good legends about Lesbos? How did that originate?
[no troll or anything, simple question, I don't know anything about them really, as opposed to Amazons of whom I heard]

Lesbos was most certaintly true.
It originated when all the men were off to war for large amounts of time and the ladies had to entertain themselves or so the legend goes. That combined with propably one of the first very powerful feminist movement in recorded history.

But there is an island of Lesbos! What, did they deport them when they came back home and cought them in flagranti? Ancient Greece was a funny place.

Of course there is Lesbos or Mytilini.
I have no idea what they did when they returned.
Very funny place.
Aristophanes is the funniest of all.
In one of his plays, the women conveinced the men not to go to war by threatening them that they wouldn't have sex with them if they did.

It wasn't there anything to revision. Plato wrote the facts long time ago. Anyone else can write what he fancies.

They probably didn't kill the children. Though I can see it is a controvesial issue.
Anyway, voted on the poll.

What is there to be controversial after 2000 years? It just doesnt stick according to that study. But the legend ha survived untill today...

That all depends on whether or not you're intelligent enough to use the spellchecker. How "irratating"
