Too damn cold for November in DC.

It was snowing pretty hard in the mountains on the Pennsylvania Turnpike while driving this afternoon. It's probably just warm enough here to get rain rather than snow.

This would be a good day to see the sights. You ought to go down to the mall and walk around.

I did that yesterday

Today I'm having lunch with your ISP industry association lobbyists - I suppose you guys all love DCMA as much as we do?

Horse's shopping list:

Baseball mits and a ball or two

Gridiron ball and maybe a helmet (what's a team with a cool helmet - maybe pirates or buccanneers?)

Souvenir snow dome of Washington (one of my kids is queer for those damn snow dome things)

A pullover or T-shirt with the U.S. crest on it - they got some good ones

A good computer shop like Dell if they have shops - I might buy a laptop

Something for Mrs Horse - maybe a whip and a chair

A bottle of good bourbon and maybe CIA or FBI cap for, well, me

A new bag to carry all the loot home in

Where are the big shopping malls, Georgetown or do I have to go to Virginia?

I've been having a bit of a foggy bottom myself btw.......

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

You're going to have to brave the shopping crowds? My sympathies. Your closest option is Pentagon City. You have the mall and then across the street in a small above-ground mall is a Best Buy, where they have laptops on display. There's also an Apple store in the above-ground mall. Dell doesn't sell anything in stores, but rather can be reached over the telephone. You should be able to find everything in your list besides the liquor at Pentagon City.

Short cab ride over the Potomac into Virginia. Just hail a cab and say that you want to go to Pentagon City mall. It also has a metro stop, if you're inclined to try out the metro. Open till at least 10 pm at this time of year.

The other, bigger shopping area is Tyson's Corner. That's a much longer cab ride and is out more in the suburbs.

Horse, there's a liquor store about 2 blocks from the Treasury building on Penn, I believe. There's also numberous ones in Dupont.

Pentagon City is good for general shopping. There's a mall carved out of an old textile mill in Georgetown that's more upscale. I think it's called "The Shoppes at Georgetown". If you're looking for the ecclectic, try out the Eastern Market on Saturday morning.

Most of the small stuff, like t-shirts, snoglobes and hats can be found at any of the memrobilia kiosks or at various places downtown where street merchants are setup.

Look for a Tampa Bay Buccaneers helmet -- pewter color with a red Jolly Roger flag -- pretty cool.

A bottle of good bourbon

The classic American bourbon is Jack Daniels Old No. 7, though many would argue the point.

The "Ezra" reference was to Ezra Brooks bourbon.

Personally, I like Maker's Mark, which has a cool melty red wax closure.

There are many brands, Horse, as you would expect in this Land of Plenty. Just make sure it's a real bourbon --
quote:
There are strict laws governing just what a Bourbon must be to be labeled as such. For example, at least 51 percent of the grain used in making the whiskey must be corn (most distillers use 65 to 75 percent corn). Bourbon Whiskey must be aged for a minimum of two years in new, white oak barrels that have been charred. Nothing can be added at bottling to enhance flavor, add sweetness or alter color.

To avoid -- Jim Beam, Early Times, Rebel Yell.

Happy hunting.

I don't upmarket, I want Walmart

Actually I'd like to see one of those mega department stores where you can buy a gun, some drugs and a cappuccino without leaving the store.

Land of Plenty JRabbit? You ninny, I just came from there

In fact a lot of people we're meeting are saying they want to move or retire to Australia to excape the war on terror. Washingtoners are quite tense about the international situation on some levels.

All good advice, thanks guys.
