Nominations will end at 0530 Saturday my time, thus

0330 Saturday Sydney
1830 Friday Jerusalem
1630 Friday London
1130 Friday New York
1030 Friday Chicago
0930 Friday Phoenix
0630 Friday Los Angeles

I can imagine some people may be reluctant to run because it seems to directly challenge BF. However this is how I see it:

This poll is just putting together 2 polls:

1. Recall BF poll. If BF gets the most votes in this poll then he won't be recalled.
2. Replace BF poll. If someone else besides BF gets the most votes in the poll then he will become consul. However, this would also indicate only minority support for BF and thus be reason to have run in the first place.

Don't think about this as running directly against BF think of it as running just in case BF doesn't get enough support to continue as Consul.

ps - I will not be running at present.

As this position will only last for a few days, I nominate myself as Interum Consul.

Hmm, this is an interesting situation. I need and maybe others need clarification on this:

IF BF is recalled and we elect another counsel will he just be an interim couple of week counsel? Or wiil he finish this term and continue in the next term?

I'm not sure... do I smell an ammendment coming?

An idea would just to quit this CoC thing and just use the regular elections as a virtual CoC...

If the CoC succeeds, the replacement will only stand until the next election, which in this case is in about 2 weeks.

That would not be good because this CoC happened at an insteresting time, just 3 weeks shy of that Consul running for re-election. Had the CoC occured 2 months ago, we'd have to wait all that time for a replacement.

And if you are referring to the regular elections dubbing for a CoC too then we'd have to have 2 votings, one for the CoC race and the other for the regular one. That would mean a possible replacement of 2/3 of the leadership which IMO is not a good idea, also if the CoCed person were doing a particularly atrocious job at the beginning of a month we would have to wait almost 30 days before he was up for replacement, something that is unacceptable.

You mistake my meaning

What I meant that in THIS PARTICULAR circumstance, if we agree not to pursue to CoC we can use the voting as a virtual CoC. I only suggest this because its only ~10 days until the nominations start.

MrWIA,

After reading the constitution on the issue, here how the ballot should be laid out:

If Trip, E_T, and BigFree are all candidates:

1. BigFree-E_T
2. BigFree-Trip
3. E_T-BigFree
4. E_T-Trip
5. Trip-BigFree
6. Trip-E_T

The con calls for a preferential ballot (such as the above) and we can use the same counting method used at the start of the game, though since they're only running for one seat, it becomes incredibly simple... it's just a standard two-round election. Whoever loses the first round is out and the people that voted for them get their votes transferred to their second choice. Man with the most votes in the second round wins. Simple!

If there are only two candidates, then the ballot is a simple choice between BigFree and his challenger.

Just want to make sure we do this right so that we aren't stuck having the CoC repeated because the election took longer than the alloted 72 hours. We want this over with, whether successful or unsuccessful, as soon as possible.

Shouldn't this be "man with the most votes in the two rounds combined (after the elimination of last place) wins"?

Example:
Election results are:
1. BigFree-E_T: 6
2. BigFree-Trip: 10
3. E_T-BigFree: 5
4. E_T-Trip: 7
5. Trip-BigFree: 11
6. Trip-E_T: 4

Round 1: E_T is eliminated
Round 2: Trip gets 11+4+7=22 votes, BF gets 6+10+5=21 votes-->Trip wins

Um, that's the same thing. You're just illustrating exactly what I suggested

This was my whole point, that if you provide a prioritized list as the ballot choices, you can hold an IMMEDIATE runoff (as you illustrate) by adding votes from defeated candidates to those of candidates that make it to the second round without having to conduct a SECOND POLL.

We're suggesting the same thing, civman

I knew we were saying the same thing, I just misread the end and thought what you said was somewhat misleading. Now after rereading it I see I was wrong .

Seeing how the CoCc was defeated there's no need for an election.

The vote held in the other thread was not a valid CoC vote, which is the main reason many (such as myself) did not vote in it.

If F-P is interested in still holding a CoC, he is within his rights to do so, but he would need to post a poll naming a candidate (which E_T has agreed to).

Whether it's worth it to do that within the next 48 hours (if he restarts the timer) or just wait for the scheduled election in 2 weeks is up to him (or another).
