Heores of Might and Magic V is now in the early stages of developement Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

This is from a fansite forum:

quote:

Hi

I am Ubisoft's producer for Heroes oMM 5. Thanks a lot for your mail

We are still very early in the process of developping this title, however every help is welcome. We are very interested in all the community
contribution to the design of the next instalment in the serie ! It will be Thomas Legrand's core job on this title, to be the point of contact for all such discussions with the fan community. He is assisting me in producing the game.

Feel free to send us (to Thomas and me in cc) any idea and proposal you have. I cant promise we would include it, but it will definitely be
considered

For later stages processes like polls we would also be interested in any help of course.

So...Ubisoft is going to publish it. Okay...nice. I like the job they did with Warlords IV, allthough many disagree with me there. No word yet, on who the developer will be.

Does Ubisoft have a record of in-house developing?

Anyway...this is one I am looking forward to. According to Ubisoft, they will announce the title about this time next year. This means release in a couple of years or so

If it follows the recent trend of increasing eye candy and fripperies while decreasing the opponent AI then it won't be getting my money. In HOMM4 I never felt challenged by the opponents at all, just at a disadvantage due to massive disparity of starting resources or map setup.

Well....since it's now a new producer and a new developer. Who knows where this is heading.

I am definately going to follow this. But you are right. HOMM IV was not a good game

Yes I agree, worth a watch. Its just that its always a lot easier on a design document to list more buildings, monsters, spells etc as a step forward and than to just say "make the AI kick ass and fun to compete against" and really expect to deliver it.

Increasing the eye candy? No, I don't think so. HoMM2 looks a hell of alot better then any of the ones that came after it, even if it is in a low resolution. HoMM2 was the highpoint of the series, and I really doubt the fifth will be able to recover it.

I guess HoMM5 was inevitable........it has quite a fanbase I think; I hope they don't screw it up.

I used to play HOMM2 MP with friends. That was real fun!

But the AI has never been too bright in any game of the Heroes tetralogy. Zero challenge really. I don't think things are going to improve in that sense.
I hope for more cursed artifacts in Heroes 5 (Artifacts that have both good and bad features). Like: The Great Mogul, second largest diamond in the world, increases your spell power by 4 but reduces your luck by 3.

The rather poor AI makes it an ideal game for children, though. I imagine that many children's first venture into strategy gaming has been done with HoMM.

HOMM3 was a fine game, with charming graphics and enjoyable gameplay.

HOMM4 had worse graphics, and for that reason alone I found it unplayable, although there was other stuff I didn't care for as well. Fortunately I swapped it for Baldurs Gate 2, a nice RPG.

Ah, the good ol' days. I played HoMM2 "multiplayer" with a friend of mine, too. We didn't have the Internet, so, we'd call each other on the phone and then start the same scenario on the same settings as different factions and then tell each other what we were doing. That was even fun. For some time...

I still like HoMM2 most... Any way, I'll keep an eye on this fifth installment.

Question: so, Ubisoft is the publisher? Who's the developer then?

Each to their own. I thought 3 and 4 did an okay job of prettying up the game (which includes upping the resolution) but fell flat on the gameplay. The poor AI just couldnt cope with all these new buildings and would drift aimlessly between them instead of persuing a long term strategy.

My favourite game in the series is HoMM 3. It had great graphics and cool gameplay. I didn't particularly care for the isometric view in 4 but othervise I thought that it looked great.

I hope that the developers of HoMM 5 (whomever they are) will pay more attention to developing a strong AI without cheats.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I like Master of Magic best

HOMM 2 (And 3) were both good

Age of Wonders was nice (but just didn't catch me the same)

Lords of Magic was a disappointment

I am trying Shadow Magic (Age of Wonders 2 addon) now

I did the same thing with a good friend of mine. We'd conquer the world and then go at each other. Quite fun.

I'd settle for finding a copy of Heroes Millennium edition since my new computer is now fast enough to run Heroes 3, rather than a Heroes 5.

Now if they made it so that it could run off a Pentium 2.

Shadow Magic is what Age of Wonders should been like in the first place to be honest... They're asking the full price for this new title, while it's just been updated (Okay I have to admit, a lot of things have been improved, such as the 2 gates/wall etc, but nevertheless, it should be a simple expansion pack instead of a standalone product)
