There is a localised patch for the Euro version. There is a link here:-
http://www.civfanatics.com/index.shtml#11-16-1
Look under "Thursday November 20th" heading for the link to the file and also a link to the announcement and content.
Please note is is NOT the patch you are all looking for but merely one that redresses things that Localisation caused.

I'm quite confused about those patches, is that France/Deutch etc. meant for ALL european versions of the game, or just for those certain countries. I installed the mentioned patch, which gived me some French bullshit, but after hitting next couple of times it indeed installed [i]something[/]. But regadless of that, the game still seems to be version 1.00.
The problem occurs in single plays, for multiplays, I do not know for I haven't played it yet.
I have updated my graphic accelerator. Should there be other components i should update, that would be relative to this problem.
And yes the problem occurs indeed quite randomly, not in the start screen at least yet, but mostly in civiliopedia and in the game itself.

Damn, this is very frustating indeed. Starnge that nobody else haven't ever got the sudden "the game will now exit" message.

I think forums are made also for these reasons, therefore welcome anyway.
About your problem ...dunno,maybe,after uninstallig and rebooting, you have to manually clean the Windows registry from fossils of previous demo versions-time limited you could have installled previously.

I've had this happen to me to. When the Illegal Operation window pops up, click on Details, it should give you a roundabout hint as to what file (and thus what aspect of the game is causing the crash) is causing the error. In my case it was with the Sound Card. My problem for me was that the Volume Control must be accessible in the Task Bar while the game is running, or else the game will crash randomly and very frequently after 5-10 minutes of play.
