You know, the decision for them to abandon Catchopolis really disappoints me.

Before, you could argue that they were merely doing the "gather and then lash out" method after we slammed up against their strongest bulwark - a very sound military tactic and frankly their best one. I think if we had slammed into Catch as they probably hoped and done very poorly, they had quite a shot at driving north against us.

Instead, it really does look like they don't care about winning at all and really ARE just trying to be bastards and hurt us as much as they can before they go out. They're not trying to win, they're just trying to make everyone they can miserable before they go. At this point, that's the only real explanation - otherwise they wouldn't have given up Catch, which was unquestionably the best place for them to make their stand.

How very, very disappointing indeed. I hope that if we ever find ourselves in the position of "being a bastard" or trying a last desperate gambit to pull the win off, we choose differently than GCA has. What might have been a brilliant strategic move and a most challenging war has turned into a shady snipefest.

What they've done should be noted very carefully for your ladder team. These things take so much time, and are so involving, that you will often find teams doing things based on motivations other than what is the best move from a cold, strategy POV.

The one thing it tells me is that GCA has NO IDEA what is we have beyond what they can see. There wasn't enough troops there to finish catch off (at least not with any reasonable expectation of success on our part). They didn't know that. What they knew is that we was pushing onward and had enough of a force visible to do some damage, and in their mind we probally have 2 or 3 more large stacks by now on the way south.

Im playing "Beta" in setting up the new C3C ISDG on behalf of the Apoly team. The UN is at CDGroup.

I have noticed and its very obvious that Lucky will post anything to counter something I say and in a very unfriendly tone.

He is without question tainted in his view of Apoly.

My guess is he is doing this for spite not because of any sound military strategy.

I think you could be right about that one, Con- at first I thought it was my imagination, but now I think he really was taking a shot at me being the current head of the Ladder team. He doesn't watch himself, he's going to find his old grudge breaks new mutiny, and the best builders will ally with the best warmongers against him.

If he wants to carry grudges from one match to the next, I'll certainly look to carry friendships....

I dont think you are getting the "lucky" treatment for being the head of the Ladder Team, I think its because you were an Apoly guy in this one. I could be wrong, but thats my guess.

I thought it was my imagination at first as well , but its been way to consistent for that!

And yes if he keeps it up he will find himself left out in the cold.

I look forward to further cooperation between us.

Someone or some group will eventually have to contain this evil............

In retrospect, those of us who didn't believe they would abandon should have paid more heed to the reduction of the city's population. If you're going to make a goal line stand, you don't toss aside a 50% defense bonus by dropping the pop below 7.

Speaking of which... can someone tell me if the bug that was making walls effective even for cities with pop 7+ is still there? 'cause if not, you either need walls or pop 7, not both... and I vaguely recall this bug to be fixed... just not sure if it was in C3C or a PtW patch...

It is fixed, or so I've heard, but I'm not sure that is relevant since Catch didn't have walls the turn we advanced.

Also, their shield box was empty as of CFCs turn, and if they rushed them during their following turn they would not have been up prior to any assault. Furthermore, with 8 or 9 cats, any newly constructed walls would have come down pronto, possibly with the first shot of any given round.

Maybe vondrack was just asking for general information. but I thought I would point that out. Then, I would say that...

Any important city would benefit from walls and pop 7+ during a siege. It adds an extra citizen that has to be killed before losing the defense bonus, essentially.
