mpgs, bad frames, fixing them? Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

I have few mpgs (not porn, thank you), but they freeze after 30seconds to 1 minute (depends which mpg you choose). They are full size, and I figure they might have few bad frames. How do I fix this problem and can continue enjoying watching the videos?

I can't skip the problem either, skipping few minutes doesn't help, it won't play. I've tried to use all different players and all, so I think it's just a bad frame. I tried using PowerDVD, and it didn't freeze, but at the point where it freezes with other players, the video was on still and the audio went mad, like it was on double speed. These videos should be just fine, after I fix this bad frame problem, so it won't freeze up. How do I do this?

Sheesh, some people

Find an mpeg editor somewhere on the Web. There are loads of them out there. Just be careful of viruses and stuff. I have no idea which one is good, though.

Try skipping before you run into the bad part, that sometimes helps

I use DivFix, and AviFixer I think. However, not sure if they are also for mpg's (particularly the latter ). Just google for mpg fixer download.

I couldn't find an editor to fix it up. Editor, that would support fixing mpgs.

Use mplayer, it's famous for its ability to play brkoen media files. Thus, by extension, mencoder should be famous for its ability to fix broken media files. I think. I don't know where to get the win32 port (if one exists) of the programs, though...

Ari Rahikkala, well I downloaded the rpms, and installed the crap, and now when I try to open mpg file it gives me fatal error: Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device.

Any help? Where should I start fixing this error?

I think so. Then again, I'm not sure . Reading that error message I'd think I have some problems with my graphic card set up, drivers or something. Or maybe I'm missing codecs? Well I just thought since Ari is Linux GURU, he might have a quick answer to my problems... I try to work it out myself naturally, but it'll take ages... I'm kind of Linux newbie to be honest. But I'm trying.

Run mplayer -vo help. xv and sdl are the best choices (i.e. run mplayer with -vo xv or -vo sdl if you can find them in the list that -vo help outputs) , gl or gl2 might also work, and x11 is almost guaranteed to work but is slow and doesn't do scaling. Configuring X is a rather complex issue and, more importantly, I don't know how it's done on whatever distro you're using, so I'd prefer not to try it out now...

mencoder -ovc copy -oac copy creates a file called test.avi. Its frames are all copied directly from the given file but its headers should be fixed. If you can't get mplayer to work properly, you could at least try if some win32 player can play the mencoder-recreated file...
