Game 2, this time Toni gets the good start, on plains and right below Clouds small island. Me and Barley both start in heavy grassland and forests, and thus our impact on the early game is small.
Toni finds Clouds island some turns before Cloud finally fills his island with cities, seeing him stuck at 17 cities under Republic.
I start ferrying settlers in coracles to the island above Clouds to gift some cities (probably shouldve gifted more), but its all too late, Toni takes another city with Pikemen/Mounted Archers after Cloud disbands another city, and makes it 1-1

Screenie of the final battle. The tile near Tonis loaded coracle was a city, Cloud disbanded so it couldnt be taken, then Toni went on to take Philae.

Actually am not sure, our styles with Maz have similarities and differences, you know what they say if you want to be the best u have to learn from the best. But thats not the point Maq, instead of going into what players know and how their stategies can be broken, one well done for winning will have done the job Maq, usually people say this to the winninf team.

Geez, you guys build a lot of cities close to each other. I've never played multiplayer; when I play against the (modded) computer game, I try to space my cities out so that they can grow to be big. Is this ICS thing still the preferred strategy?

If you wona survive, yes this is the way to build them. I bet if you play a multyplayer game you will see why.

Hehe of course the strategy that wins is the best strategy Toni, and its not always the same one.
I wonder if we played a x1000 giga map, if we still would pack cities so closely? I think its the expected "end" time or "war" time that all civs meet that is the reason we build cities only for size 18, then we can have a close-knit empire good for defence.
Ive seen some people leave extra border room for the capital or an early city on grassland, i try to do this sometimes if i know ive got plenty of good land to spare.
I tried building for 3 borders in all cities once against AI's but it gave me such a slow start and defending them before roads wouldve been impossible against a human.

Well, any strategy than wins a game is the best strategy, even if its not perfect, as long as it wins... But it doesnt have to be the same strategy every game, otherwise people will know what youre doing.
Like for example i know that you keep some of your cities totally unguarded, but you have so few units so you have low military support to get as much PW and production as possible. I personally prefer to have maximum martial law units in all cities so i can go over the city limit as much as possible, but of course we can both change our strategies at any time. I noticed Barley is playing the same way as you now too.
Dont worry about it, sometimes i talk in riddles.

Nicely said, Maq are we good for tonight for a new game? We planned on starting a new one today, right, hope everybody good for it. See what happens in the 3rd, should be an interesting one. We agreed to play on 2x gig map and no settlers? If so you wona change the files again if you got time later today and send me it, so we can all replace the old one and start right away.

Yes the coming games look to be very promising indeed. Maq you are very right about Clouds bad land starts and hes skills, but i don't agree he is better then me, at best we are equal, last time we played the game often with original settings 1vs1 i had a 7:0 win run so make your conclusion.

Yea Cloud is 1 of the best for sure, he is veru instrumental when needed. Oh afcourse the 7 games i won were with peace treaties, meaning that develpment won the game, so i won them all. But if i play with him without any peace, hmmm it may be a tough one so again, depends on what game is it, actually been playing and rules

*BUMP*
Resurrecting the old thread for (hopefully) the game.
Are we using the sourcecode patch + no "goody" huts + 1.5x giga map?
edit: another change is that you cant see the ranking graph from load/save screen now if you are host. Should i also take away the Score on ranking screen or leave it?

Id like us all to download the latest sourcecode patch sometime but i think its too late to get that sorted now, so maybe for next game.
Okay here are the changes,
- Nothing from goody huts.
- x1.5 Gigantic Map
- x2 Slower science
- Starting techs: Toolmaking, Agriculture, Religeon.
- No ranking graphs or details of score. (but overall score remains)
- No ''overall'' graph on load/save screen for host anymore.
