	Retirement Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Last night my laptop appears to have suffered a fatal CPU meltdown. It won't even boot up to the bios screen and my HDD is trapped with all of its contents, maybe never to see the light of day again. At the moment I can't get another computer and I'm not even sure if I will be able to get one in the near future (the next few months). Because of this I will have sporadic internet access at best, and no ability to play or open Civ 3 or PTW in any way.

That being the case, it appears my time as MoW is over. There's no way I can maintain my activity level or even remain as MoW with my current situation. It's been a good run, I didn't want things to end this way, but that's how things go sometimes.

Make sure you guys stick it to GCA 'til the end for me.

Sorry to hear that Trip, but as long as your HDD is still good, you should be able to remove it and use it in another machine.

Damn, this truly sucks....

I just want to say that despite our constant making fun of Trip in the chat room, there are few people who have contributed as much to our team, and who has always put his heart and soul into this game. Trip, you have been an awsome guy, best of luck getting a new PC and hope to see ya soon

Unfortunately, by virtue of the fact that it was a laptop nothing is recoverable. Otherwise I'd just buy a new processor and only be gone for a few days.

MZ said it nicely, so I have not too much to add. I would only say that for all our differences earlier on, you have demonstrated a willingness and ability to learn. You have come a long way during this game, Trip. I was so hoping that you would be available to take a seat as a Consul. I can't think of many who would be better.

I had envisioned trip running for Consul...now I'll have to vote against someone else!

I would take apart that laptop and see if replacing the MB battery did any good. While it was apart, I would check to see if anything came loose. Someone could have drop kicked the sucker and shook something loose.

If not, the HD's do come out of those things...get an estimate on repairs before you junk it.

I'm going to see if any of my bootup files are corrupted (perhaps through a virus or something) before I call it quits completely... we'll see how things turn out.

sigh! You would be a perfect consul in the coming election, with your vast MOW experience, your connections to the other teams and your maturity in handling situations as seen in your posting.

The MOW topped trend itself is a legend. And we definitely appreciate the effort and patience you have put in explaining every military maneuver.

I'd be willing to fill in if necessary, and if it is the desire of the consuls for me to fill the job on a permanent basis, I'll be willing to do that too. However, I hope trip will return soon(didn't I do the same thing when uber left, this is becoming a trend)

you can actually remove the hard drive from laptops, they make special IDE cables that connect to laptop harddrives. you can hook it up to a desktop and it's just like a real hard drive :-D

Providing the hard drive itself isn't fried, you can get your data back pretty easy. That connector costs a whole $5.

My computer has been possessed by the holy spirit it seems.

It has made a complete recovery despite all I thought was wrong with it, and I still have no idea why it crapped out or why it came back.

It's odd, because I got it to boot up once (and it was REALLY slow) and I managed to back up some very important stuff on floppy disks, then restarted and it was working again...

Gateway something or other. It was their top of the line computer at the time I bought it and besides this it's been fine so far (year and 4 months or so).

Hoping it's not just playing with my mind.
