Flip Trip -- The Official Campaign Thread Suffering from ads?

Forgive my poor alliteration and blatant rip-off of Togas' thread title I'm thin on ideas.

Yes, it's that time again, and as Togas said, it wouldn't be any fun without a real competition. I'm really excited about this election and have full faith in the team to pick the next consul.

I've wanted to become a consul for this team for quite a while now, and I feel this is the best opportunity for me. My last election was plagued with the problems of the ongoing war and my role as MoW. Due to my recent computer problems I resigned from the MoW but due to a miraculous recovery I'm now able to take an active role in the team once more.

And I feel that's my greatest possible contribution to this team. I try to be as active and create as much discussion, debate and activity as I can within the team so that as many people can get their voices heard on issues. We have many important decisions to make soon (to attack CFC, how to finish GCA should they run away, diplomacy with CGN and GWT, etc.) and I believe that these decisions ought to be made with the full input of the team and not as much between only 3 men. I have and always will submit to the will of the team through either discussion or polls as this is as much a game for the entire team as it is for me or anyone else personally.

Another thing I find very helpful in a consul is being around in the chatroom when the turn is to be played. Many non-major decisions are made in the chatroom and having as many consuls present as possible is very important in "legalizing" any decisions that might be made. I've always been very active in the chatroom to provide input and advising when the consuls have played the turn. I would do the same as a consul, discussing and debating issues with those present in the chatroom to find the best options for each situation. I won't claim to be infallible, and others have come up with improvements on my own suggestions many a time.

Just as with Togas, feel free to ask me any questions about my policies or plans for the future and I will respond as soon as I am able.

Thank you.

First question: how much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Anyway, my vote depends on whether you can spell my name with a space or not.

I'll do a little of my own ripping form Togas's thread because I want Trip to answer basically the same question:

When do we consider CFC a threat and a burden? Do we wait until they are actually a threat? Do we wait unit they become a burden? What are the signs to look for? What's a good way to look at a cost benefit analysis to compare what it costs us to eliminate them as a thereat compared to what they provide us as an ally?

another question. Scenario. 10 turns from now, CGN sent over 2 settlers, built 2 cities on the jungle patch between Equilibrium and CFC, and took all the Silk resources. What will you do ? (This is highly unlikely obviously but Consul have to react to unlikely events anyway)

It seems lately Goonie has had less of an effect on CFC's diplomacy which is certainly good for us. I would like to maintain a positive relationship with CFC now that our plans for the FP being built and the palace jump are fairly solidified. Should we be able to trust them then I think it would be to our mutual benefit.

Certainly if Goonie is actually going to be our ambassador and keeps stirring up trouble we'll have to take drastic measures (i.e. try to bypass him and deal straight with the team).

As long as CFC is "mostly" cooperative with our plans for the future then we should certainly keep them around. It would be quite an investment to try and get rid of them especially in the near future before our plans for settling this continent are completed. What I mean by "mostly" is that they (for all intents and purposes) stick with us and what we want to do. That is, willing to do city investigations for us, willing to give us BoP (ideally), willing to gift us gold to speed along our research (giving them the tech in return of course) and other things along those lines to help assist us.

Should they refuse to do these things then we will have to start planning to deal with them militarily. We should always keep a mobile reserve (especially in the south) on-hand to make sure we are able to deal with a possible invasion. They will most likely be able to penetrate our initial defenses but we should be able to stop them with a mobile reserve.

I think it's in all of our benefits to try and see things eye to eye though. I've always been a proponent for appeasement if we are certain it will pay off for our interests. Sucking up pride or giving minor concessions to maintain the status quo is not something to be ruled out. As long as CFC remains cooperative we should be able to use them quite nicely in the future.

Luckily we will have our own source of silks in the south, and since we have no real expansion plans in that area and no assets to protect besides the silks. We may want to write up an agreement with CGN soon just to lay down rules for situations just like these: we each stay on our own continents (for the time being... we may want to grab a piece of the other continent in the future before RRs ).

I would try to convince CGN not to but I don't think it would be worth pressing the issue especially with nothing particularly of value for us to lose. Of course, CFC might see things differently (being "their" side of the continent and all) and should things come to a head between those two teams then we have a much more complicated situation. Should CFC become too bothersome for us in that sort of situation and others if it's far enough in the future we may want to consider dealing with them militarily. If CFC is willing to cause us problems with the #1 civ in the game without regard for the consequences that might befall us then we may want to reconsider our stance with them.

Aside from firing Goonie () the only way they really have a chance to win the game is to completely turn around their domestic situation. They have 2 Workers, a few small cities and Shen Ling which can get up to 6 or 7 FPT which they aren't taking advantage of. Whatever they do militarily depends most of on all their economics.

The best way I think CFC has a chance to win at this point would be to build up economically the best they can, defend their borders and hang on to Apolyton until it's time for the spaceship to launch. They have lots of hilly land and can compete on a per city basis SPT wise, but if they tried to attack us their chances of gaining headway are slim to none. They really have no chance of winning by taking on the other continent either (I really doubt CFC has it in them to do a palace jump overseas and all the planning and such that would require).

This grammar and spelling thing is good to hear. And given my similar obsession, could be a deciding factor. Especially since the lawyer in the other thread got "delegate" wrong.

A more serious one here, and one that is very topical at times.

We all know your Civving ability, but this is what the election will be won or lost on for me, at least. (Wish I'd seen all this election malarkey earlier...)

Let's say you have a major disagreement between the Ministers or between the Ministers and the Consuls (as a group). Do you delay to discuss further if the Consuls themselves are in agreement, and what do you do in the situations where the disagreements become serious enough that Ministers start questioning their role on the team?

If that sort of problem then in most situations then there should be 2 levels of resolution: An immediate one and a longer-term one.

The immediate resolution would have to be one with majority of the consuls. If 2 consuls agree then a minor immediate situation would be able to be resolved that way.

However, if the issue is major (triggering our GA, for example) then things should probably be delayed until the next phase of resolution could be implimented:

There would also be a requirement to bring the issue to a thread before the team to try and deal with the underlying problem. If the issue revolved around the position of ministers... well, this has been laid out pretty well in the Constitution and in some of the debates/discussions which have taken place in the past few months. Just as when I was MOW, the ministers should be willing to accept their role and what it means every time they contribute with that job. If they believe things should change then they can propose an amendment to do that.

Ultimately, the team is to be the one that decides issues. Before as MOW, now on welfare and in the future should I be elected to the consulate that is how I will base my decisions on most of all. If general consensus or a poll shows what the team feels about a certain issue, that is what should be done. If I disagree I will of course argue for my position to try to convince people otherwise, but I will always feel the will of the team is supreme to the consuls, ministers or any individual on this team.
