So simple nobody has ever thought of it...? Full PM-box? Change here!

While reading that civ3 information on the thread Kull linked to, I got an idea. I realized that I had never tried this, and I have never seen any evidence that someone else tried it. I opened up the rules file and changed the "Changeterrain" command for the desert, so that if an engineer uses the terraform command on the desert, he does not turn it into plains but into oceans-and guess what, it worked! I thought this might be an interesting option for example for imperialism scenarios to build vital waterways such as the Suez and Panama canals.
The engineer "survives", he goes to sleep after completing the command, and can be moved a turn later.

Support Apolyton, pre-order Civilization IV

Wow! I can use this for my Mars Project scenario! Great work, Stefan!

Scenarios with this using strategical water ways would be brilliant.

Suffering from ads?

Stefan, I don't know if you're familiar with the Microprose Mars scenario, but by mining the icecap in it you can turn that terrain into ocean squares. I don't think it's ever been used though to represent the building of waterways such as the Suez Canal however.

Browse Apolyton AD-FREE

In Holy Roman Empire or whatever, by Jesus Muñoz,
you could transform river terrain into ocean

Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

You can also make boats with settler ability that can change water into land, which could make a fun addition to a normal Civ2 game.

This is mention in my second design tip
Mixing and Matching Land, Sea, and Air Unit Abilities, under the section, the three special roles.

I made it to simulate the channels and navigable rivers in the Middle ages.
