	Crying Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Do you cry? I'll make a poll so you don't have to admit in front of other guys you cry.

I seem unable to cry. I can well up tears- I did just tonight watching a movie. But I can't actually produce tears that run down my cheek, or just all out cry. I try to cry, but seem unable to.

I'm not some wannabe macho person who pretends to act tough. I really wish I could cry. I miss being able to cry as a kid, and when you're done, everything is all better. I just want the pain to go away, but I can't cry it away as I could as a kid. . Even when my ex-girlfriend (whom I still had some feelings for apparantly) died, or even when my father died, I was unable to cry. I would like to, but I can't.

I well up enough that tears run down my cheek, and I try to pretend that my contacts are bothering me. I wouldn't say that I cry to the point of sobbing though, not nearly.

I cry mostly at movies, but ALOT of movies. Among the list of movies that I cry at at some point in the movie are the following.
Fargo
Amelie (several parts of this movie)
Moulin Rouge
Apollo 13
Braveheart
that one movie where bruce willis goes to the meteor that is hurtling towards earth (i forget what it's called)
Angelas Ashes
Empire of the Sun
American History X
Minority Report
We Were Soldiers
Black Hawk Down
True Romance
The Professional
Pay it Forward
Life is Beautiful

and this is just out of the movies that I own. (plus one or two extra movies that i could remember)
I'm sure there are many others that would get me going, it doesn't take much, I'm really a pretty sensitive guy.

Fargo when the cop finally has caught the bad guy, and she's talking to him while he's sitting in the back seat, and then right after when she talked to her husband and the contrast is there, that they have such a simple life, but they are happy. . .

Minority Report when the girl (the bald girl) is telling the parents about her visions of their son that had died . . . REALLY sad, that part. . .

I usually cry twice a year or so, and when I do it's ****ing awful...like 6 hours straight. I'm a real mess if I ever reach that point. Just had a breakdown last month actually...not fun at all...you feel pretty good afterwards though.

yeah I forget about that one scene in Minority Report. but Stephen Spielberg movies in general don't do much to me emotionally. Well except for Saving Private Ryan. But even the intro to that movie didn't cause me to well up or anything. I think that is mainly because it was at the beginning and I didn't get an opportunity to know and love the characters. Other war movies do me in worse- including the one I just watched tonight (last samurai)- with those gatling guns opening up. I felt like I wanted to cry, but of course I couldn't. But I did well up a little.

I watched parts of that. I still haven't had a chance to watch the whole thing. The parts I did see looked interesting. I hope HBO shows that movie again. I need to see it.

It's pretty decent, but it goes on for about a half-hour too long in many people's opinion. Would have been amazing if it ended half an hour less.

apollo 13 - this one is especially ackward, because it's not a movie many people cry at. but the scene at the end, when they're plunging back down to earth, and nobody knows for sure if the heat shield is cracked or not, and more time passes than is supposed to pass, but then they come through and the shutes open up and the whole control room starts cheering and shaking hands, and it shows picture of the family, and his son in school. . . that part really gets me. Also, when the little boy says the line "mommy, your squishing me" that part makes me laugh, but since i'm crying, it's always a laugh that makes it obvious that i'm crying too . . .

Braveheart: at the end, when he's being cut open, and he looks out into the crowd, and sees the vision of that girl in the crowd, just that moment makes me cry . . .

it's been a while since I seen that one. It would seem that it wouldn't be emotional since I knew they would survive. But I do remember my heart being tugged a little at some point in that sequence. I think it was in relation to the relatives on the ground- you could relate to their anguish and fear.

Some movies make me cry. But I think you have to be an American to cry during Apollo 13 or American History X.

The Bodyguard made me cry. As did Braveheart.

But other than movies, the only thing that makes me cry, is seeing my wife or my son in pain, for whatever reason

**shrug** I, too, cry sometimes — movies, songs and such can set things off. It's good to cry sometimes ... not only emotionally, but physically as well. For too long, it's been instilled in guys that we're supposed to be macho about everything and suck it up. Well, it doesn't always work that way.

The most embarassing moment was when I was out with my family at the veranda of a restaurant in a park. I must have been around 20 years old and had recently broken up with my girlfriend. This very melancholic Greek song about lost love etc starts playing through the outdoor speakers and right there without warning I felt so miserable and my eyes watered. I was so embarassed. I was thinking "stop it you idiot!" but I couldn't. My grandfather must have understood what was going on 'cause he started singing a happy song right there out of the blue.
The hardest crying of my life was when he died and at his funeral.

I'm a sucker for orphans or children who have lost a parent either in real life or in a film. I rarely break down and bawl my eyes out though. My favorite kind of crying is when I get flushed and can feel the blood circulating through my body, and tears form on the outside corners of my eyes. It's like simultaneously going through the process of working through something and feeling the relief. My least favorite is when I'm inconsolably sobbing. It's like a panic attack, and I'm not sure that I will be able to ever stop. Fortunately I rarely do this. The last time was at my mom's memorial service, sitting next to her mother who had alzheimer's disease and wasn't really aware that her daughter had died young.

Very few movies/books/whatever make me cry with a handful of exceptions like Pianist (and a handful of others from ck's list) and Flowers for Algernon.

But when I was a kid I cried really easy but only when angry. Then people would always misinterpret why I was crying which'd only make me get angrier and made me cry more. I did the 1. Have a kid do something mean to me. 2. Me get pissed off. 3. Start crying. 4. Get teased for crying. 5. Launch myself at him fists swinging no matter how much bigger than me he was. 6. Get the both of us suspended cycle more times than I can count.

oh, i was much much much more sensitive when i was younger than I am now. (much younger) . . . my parents love to tell the story of when my dad yelled at me for something (something very minor like "hey, don't eat that cookie before dinner" or some such thing) . . . and i started bawling, sobbing uncontrollably. . . my dad, who wasn't really angry with me in the first place, started to laugh a little and was like "hey whats wrong?" and i said. . . "You *sob* h-h-h-urt *sob* m-m-m-m-y *sob* feeeeeeeeelinnnnnnnnnggggggggsssssss waaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh *sob sob sob*" my parents were laughing hysterically at me, which of course only made it worse. i still remember this, quite vividly, i was only about 5 or so . . .

MrFun, funerals don't count. Men can cry at funerals if it is someone close.

Other than that, men are STEEL and don't cry. If they have negative emotions, they will release it in anger and direct it to someone close who might deserve it and is asking for it.
