Am I the only person really worried about the flu? Support Apolyton or Terrorists Win

I got my vaccination like a month and a half ago and now were all finding out that it was the wrong type...... if you do get the flu, is it reasonably cureable?

Tired of ads?

Yeah, is the short answer, thoguh cured is the wrong word. You'll just have to sick it out as antivirals are rather ineffective against influenza.

Influenza is a nasty bug and will leave you bed ridden for 4-5 days and feeling generally crappy for about 2 weeks, but as long as your immune system is not weak due being very young, very old, having AIDS or immunosuppressive drugs you'll live.

This Wujan strain seems to be mostly killing young kids. They will have never been exposed to Influenza before and as such are probably more susceptible than most of us.

Yeah. It's a nasty disease and you'll like you'll want to die for a few days (high fever, extremely painful joints etc), but use some fever suppressors, maybe some painkillers as well a lot fluids and you'll be fine. The mortality rate is way less than 0.1%, and nearly all of those would fall in the above categories.

I severely doubt it would be anything like the Spanish Flu pandemic after WW1.

NOTE: I am not a medic, i am a (former) virologist, so do follow any medical advice rather than what I say

This precise strain of flu is not in the cocktail vaccination you got, but there is one that's really close, so you're a lot more immune than you think you are.

About the same, maybe a letter less The difference with this strain is (a) this one hit a lot earlier than normal and (b) this one has had a lot of media hype.

Relax.

as I said in the other thread, good health is all in the mind. Some people can beat cancer through will (and presumably good immune cells) power.

I believe I won't get sick, and I won't.

Haven't had even a cold in almost 10 years. *again Diss knocks on wood just in case*

There's word (hush-hush, mostly) in some quarters of the medical community that the flu shots given this year will only be effective 30 to 50 percent of the time due to the imprecise match with what's going around.

Last I heard, 8 people were in Dallas hospitals and a guy at the America Legion Post was temporarily paralyzed, due to the vaccination.

Three of the kids who died in Colorado had definite risk factors. I wonder if some of the apparently healthy kids might have been children of very poor families or migrant workers and therefore not living in healthy conditions.

did you mother disinfect everything you touched and always took you to the hospital for little scrapes?

the flu is nothing, unless youre really old, really young, or have a fooked up immune system. At worst, if you're a normal person, you could be in bed for a few days.

also most people who die of the flu die because of dehydration, you get horrendous headaches and fevers most the time, and a lot of people go through feeling hot then cold then hot then cold (even though thier temperature is over 100) Drink plenty of water and dont bundle up, you feel cold but you're actually sweating hot . gatorade or something similar is better seeings how you probably wont eat for a day or two while youre sick, toast is good too it won't burn as much as just liquids on the way back up.

Yeah, but those were only Dallas Cowboys fans traumatized by their team's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last week. We're no talking about that. We're talking about the flu here, amigo.
