Civil Project Bill Passes
Today a bill that will set aside 1/2 of the operating budget of France has been set aside for Civil projects. These projects include but are not limited to:
Schools
Factories
Municipal Housing
Improved Ports
Court Facilities
Postal Facilities
Shelters
Already money is being handed out to the Administrative districts for such structures to be built. It is expected this bill will aid Marion D'Leferin in his quest for the elections, results to be announced in 3 days.
Presidential Election Results
After a long and hard battle fought over key interests in France, the results have come through:
Lefvebre D'Ginot - 32% of the House of 500 votes
Marion D'Leferin - 57% of the House of 500 votes
Marion D'Leferin is the new president of the Republic of France!

USA to begin Naval Buildup
The United states, beginning in it's attempts to become a great power, announced that America would build 2 battleships and 6 armored cruisers. President James Dragon, who signed the bill calling for their construction, cautioned this would be only the beginning of a US buildup.
Immigrants flock to US
After the passing of the Immigration Freedom Act, immigrants have been flocking to the US in much greater numbers, whether it by Irish coming to work in the Great Cities of the East, Chinese coming to work in the gold Mines of the East, Swedes coming to farm the plains of the Midwest, immigrants are coming in large numbers to the US.

IC:
Two divisions of regular troops have left India for Tibet. Their mission is to overthrow the Qing Emperor in China to install an emperor of the Han peoples. These divisions were accompanied by scores of servants carrying weapons as gifts for the Tibetans against the Qing.
Insurgency forces have also landed in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Guanzhou, and Hainan and have seeped into the inland areas of the country to scope out possible bases for a rebellion. These so far are just advisors, Chinese educated in Britain and sent back to teach the peasantry to stand up for a rebellion.

In a suprise turn of events, the emperor of the Ottoman Empire was assinated today when his wife poisioned him in his sleep. She was caught by the emperor's guard, and she confessed to the deplorable action in an attempt to try and become empress, as she was on her way to kill the only heir when she was caught. She will be put to death this evening in a public spectacle, by her own son. The means of death is by blade, with the plan being to decapitate her and her head to be used as a trophy. The new emperor was crowned today and he spoke his plans for the empire.
-To build a navy that can once again became the fear of the civilized world
-to reclaim land the empire has lost over the years
-To make the army of the ottoman feared once again
-To maintain its borders and remove all enemy from their borders
-To once again become a respectable nation

It's De Leferin. You can only do the apostrophe thing when there is a vowel starting the second word...otherwise, it doesn't work.

Britain and the US have agreed to an alliance. The Terms:
-Alliance is in effect between Britain and the United States
-Chile will be split up between Britain and Germany
- Britain and the US will not allow any European nations to take over any more land in the New World without the consent of Britain and the US.

D'Leferin is proper French. 'De' originates from Spanish and would be Le in French. I got the name from a Napoleonic Era Transcript.

Upon further investigation we have good reason to believe that the Argentines purpously poisoned the beef delivered to King Oscar. The Swedish people are outraged and are demanding satisfaction.

The USA would like to remind the nations of the world that no European Nation may take land from a New World nation with US and British consent- for all outraged over Argentina.....
In response to the Argentine beef problem, the US has Passed the Argentina Tariff Act, raising tarrif on Argentine goods by 35%. The US has warned that an Embargo would be forthcoming should Argentina raise tariffs in response.

US passes Army Expansion Act
The US, hoping to expand it's Federal Army(OOC: The State Militas are very formidable- DO NOT let my current small Federal Army size fool you into thinking an invasion would work) passed the Army Expansion Act. The Federal Army is to expand to 100,000 troops, it current mobilized strength- in one month- Over time- the Federal Army is to be expanded to 500,000 troops.

Training Begins
Attention Soldiers! Screamed the General. It was time for the army to meet their new instructor. Men, I have a surprise I think you would like.The men groaned, and he allowed it.Please give Mr. Sergei a warm welcome! The General then stepped back and a shady man came forward.
I am Mr. Sergei, and that is all you need to know. I will meet with your company commanders thie eve to discuss new training procedures with you. You will learn more in the way of Napoleonic tactics such as the square formation, skirmisher rankings and also tactics from Grant. If you grow weary of me, tell me and I shall deal with you properly. He pulled out a hand pistol at those words. The General has told me that there are many men that wish to join, and I am sure you won't be missed. He then turned and left. His friends would be making similar speeches to other armies of France. The government was paying a high price for such training...
Marion D'Leferin changes his name
Marion D'Leferin has changed his name to Napoleon IV. This is a sign to the people that he will take a stand to ensure France is both safe and prosperous.

Buildings to be erected in Paris
Strange underground buildings are being constructed in Paris over the next few years, it is unknown the reason for these.
Intelligence Agency renamed to NSA
The Intelligence Agency currently employed by the French government has been renamed to the NSA, or the Never-Say-Anything Agency. This name change came after the new President Napoleon enactedbills decreasing the burocratic(sp?) portions of government. In 5 years the French government is expected to be the most efficiently run government in Europe.
French Navy News
The French navy will be christening 5 more modern Ship-of-the-Lines. These will have minor reinforced iron hulls and also will have 25% more guns then the previous model.
French Army News
The French Armies in Toulon, Paris, Marseille, and other major cities have been brought under the tutelage of German and Russian instructors. The Army will be trained and the Companies will consist of smaller groups after the 2 year training is complete. The Government wishes to have a large, well-trained army which knows the terrain and can defeat a larger force. For this purpose the German and Russian instructors will pick a Regiment of men to be an Opposition Force, aka OpFor. This group will be well-trained and their readiness always the highest. They will be dragoons if you will, being efficient on foot and on the horse.

King Johan Maximilian I rode quickly through a large forest near the Macedonian border(I think that area south of me is Macedonia, if it's not, please tell me). It was time for the battle, and he was ready. His advisors had warned him that he should not be the one to lead the first battle of this new war, but he had not listened. This would be his victory, noone else's.
He arrived to see that his artillery was already set up and the men were armed and ready. 76 rifled artillery had been set up on three hills near the battlefield, and 21 "Napoleons" were ready on both sides of the main army. 32 Gatling Guns, which had proven their effectiveness in several previous wars, including the American Civil War, had also been set up near the front. The main army, numbering 43,800, would be going straight up the middle, while a flanking force of 21,300 men would sweep around the right side and hit the Macedonians after they became engaged with the main Austrian army.
The Macedonians had been preparing to defend their homeland for several days now. They had set up artillery and called up men from all regions nearby. Their army numbered 36,000 in total. Their only hope was that their two forts guarding this area would be enough to keep the Austrians back.
Johan ordered the artillery to load and prepare to fire. The armies took up their battle lines and stood ready to march. The command was given. Over 90 artillery cannons went of, shattering the morning quiet and the Macedonian walls. They reloaded and fired again, as quickly as possible. This barrage continued unchanged until only two hours from dusk. Then Johan ordered the armies to begin to march forward. The artillery kept up their firing, pounding the Macedonian forts into pulp. The Macedonian cannon had long been slient, destroyed by the more advanced, more powerful, and more numerous Austrian cannon.
The Austrian main army came within gun range 20 minutes later. Despite the artillery fire, the Macedonians had managed to hold their positions and had very concentrated fire. The Austrians dug in and began firing back. They were waiting for the flank to arrive, which would hopefully end this battle quickly.
The flank arrived only ten minutes later. They took the Macedonians completely by surprise, and were now inside one of the forts and quickly beating back the defenders. The fort finally surrendered after only a few more minutes, giving up over 3000 men as prisoners. The flank then began firing on the enemy fort from the one they now held, while a small group of 4000 went behind the second Macedonian fort. The Austrians had the Macedonians completely surrounded. After another hour of fighting, the Macedonian commander finally gave up, surrendering another 4500 men, any operational artillery left, and the second fort.
King Johan was extremely pleased. It had been his victory. The Macedonians were falling back. Soon another territory would be added to the Austria-Hungarain Empire. Soon the border would be extended yet again. Soon, with any luck, Austria-Hungary would control possibly the most strategic point in the world....
OOC: This point isn't in Macedonia, I'm just hinting at the future.

Negus Menelik II sat in his palace at Addis Abeba, Ethiopia. He had just finished his meal when a servant came in.
"Your Majesty, a message has arrived."
"Please, bring it in."
The servant went out of the room, and returned after a few minutes with a letter from one of his generals. He read it, and when he finished it, he left the room immediately and called for his best generals.
After an hour, most of the generals actually living in Addis Abeba had arrived in the palace of Negus Menelik II. The letter was read aloud, and Negus Menelik II stood up.
"My dear generals, the evil Mahdists have attacked and plundered two border villages in the west of our country. We cannot let these criminals get away with yet another brutality. We will eradicate those devils along with their Somali allies, those traitors have been a nuisance for two long. Mobilize the army, and destroy them!"
After a discussion on tactical details and some small talk, the generals left the palace, and contacted their inferiors.
To all European and American nations:
Dear friends,
the evil Mahdists and the Somalians have once again turned their aggression on us, and we have decided to eradicate the threat they pose to us forever. Although our armies are far superior to theirs, we lack the technology of the white civilizations. We would like to acquire some more modern technology, so that we, having been a Christian stronghold amongst infidels for centuries, can continue to hold off the animistic hordes.
OOC: Does somebody have a good map of Ethiopia around this time? And what exactly is the status of Eritrea and Somalia, are they inhabited by a bunch of tribes or something?
