The great Darth Imperous looked out his window into the stars. He envisioned an empire in his dreams, one that would not take kindly to antagonists and one that would conquer countless systems. With the recent training of his forces, he pointed to an eastern system on the galaxy map. He said "We will land 2 divisions there. The system has no population, but I will colonize it." He was eager to see his mobile infantry in the next few weeks (OOC: tomorrow). His military advisor told him that his empire would grow with this system. The Darth was told that the system was rich in metallic resources, so it was an ideal place for a set of colonies.

Uh, actually, my first post says nothing about the Empire having a military...

The first post with the story does, but that was 400 years ago when militaries existed.

General Palistar looked outside his Destroyer Fleet Command vessel. There he saw his entire fleet of 15 destroyers heading towards the system that the Darth named for the Imperial Federation, Imperion. The system Imperion was confirmed as a no-life system at 01800 hours. The 1st MI Division landed on the system as a small 50-man protection force, equipped and fortified on where the first colony would be built. Soon the transport loaded local engineers and a work force on to build on the planet that the Darth named "Imperite I," where the first city of Imperion would be built. The city would be named Palistar after the general, who had always been known as brilliant since the military was formed.

Thus the Imperial Trade Federation expands into the universe...

FOREIGN ADVISOR

Tar Egladilnai, we see your empire in the stars, and we too are a humanoid race. We wish to make a non-agression pact with your seemingly established empire and a trade alliance.

Concord, your race consists of beautiful beings, and we do not want this to be destroyed. We would like a non-agression pact and a trade alliance.

Ki-Maja, we believe your race is very interesting, therefore we wish to make a non-agression pact and a trade alliance. I believe that the Darth and the Ki-Maja can work together in the galaxy.

Delia, although your propaganda to many can be decieving, a non-agression pact is obvious between our two empires. A trade alliance would also prove useful.

Preteon, we see your empire as highly established and offer you a non-agression pact and a trade alliance.

Duraii, a non-agression pact and a trade alliance would be useful to us both.

Necrontyr, your race is interesting. We must offer you a non-agression pact and a trade alliance to pick things up in the galaxy between our two empires.

Trilarian, we offer you a non-agression pact and a trade alliance at once to seal our relations in a useful way.

---------------

Nobody knew what was happening until the flames subsided.

In an instant, the primary energy farm for the province of Lyonnesse was reduced to a swirl of particles dancing on the wind and stirred up by lightning. Four hundred thousand homes, temples and offices went blank. Some eyewitnesses reported someone flying away from the scene, but these were dismissed as inadmissable.

The only evidence of who may have been responsible were two words spraypainted on a nearby monolith:

DEA DELETRICES

---------------

Peregrines weren't ones for unnecessary pomp and circumstance, being an overly easy-going race. Their traditions would no doubt shock some of the other empires of the galaxy. Still, even the Peregrines found it necessary to celebrate momentous moments.

The final completion of the Athena Nike was such a moment.

The Icarus Center had been consumed in a fit of celebration. Mothers, fathers and children crammed the bleachers, covered the asphalt and filled much of the local sky. Women of the 14th Civil Airshield, the Winged Defiance, soared through the air dispensing fireworks and colored streams. Surely, it was one of the most festive days ever since the Peregrines had returned to their ancestral home all those centuries ago. Now, the Peregrines were going back to the stars for real.

"Citizens of the Confederacy!" Citizen Ariadne called into the microphone. "You are about to witness a momentous event in the history of our race. For four centuries, we have been content to confine ourselves to the betterment of our own worlds, to distance ourselves from the bloodshed of the Rebellion. But now, we enter into a new age, an age where Peregrines soar between the stars like they do between the clouds! Today, we reenter the galaxy!"

The people began to cheer. Ariadne raised a hand; no, she was not yet finished, there was more to say. "The Listeners have recently informed me of a new transmission. A message from the deepest subspace, beamed to our recievers by another people. Another confederacy. They have praised us and our world, and have offered us alliances. To this, I say we shall! We shall respond to this missive, we shall enter the fold of nations once more! But, as per our traditions, we will not answer this voice from the night with a simple recording. Nay, the best of Concord, the best of the Confederacy will travel to the domain of this new nation and beat our wings in friendship!"

The crowd cheered some more. Ariadne let them cheer for minutes on end. When they had begun to collapse from oxygen deprivation, the Citizen continued.

"And thus, it brings us back to this day. The Athena Nike was intended merely to scout out new worlds and defend the Confederacy from whatever may seek to destroy her. Now, it has a much greater goal! This ship and her crew will be the first ambassadors of the Confederacy to another nation!"

The crowd loudly voiced its approval. Damn, I'm good, Ariadne thought with approval.

One week later, the last of the chosen had arrived from the colonies. Its engines humming like a waterskimmer fresh from the workshop, the Athena Nike lifted out of Concord's atmosphere and made the jump to hyperspace. Ariadne could only imagine what she'd find when next she saw stars.

CEO Vaetari Sri'ana stood on the balcony of the 627th floor of the SSPC building headquarters. The view never ceases to amaze me, he thought. Buildings at least a mile high dominated the skyline. The Republic of Daxoko was built on the trade that passed through the planet. Everyday goods, exotic foods, items never heard of before were towed on huge flying barges, heading towards the markets. As a result of massive trading, the entire planet was covered in one huge city.

Name: The Republic of Daxoko
Government: Corporate Republic

Oh well. Since it's so late I'll only be posting a little bit.

The Daxoko system had within it 7 planets, 3 of them inhabitable.

Daxoko (the planet) was the 4th planet from Solus (the sun ) and was completely covered in buildings, making it a city planet. It was also the capital of the Republic of Daxoko.

Larinos was the 3rd planet from Solus was rich in minerals and metals, and had extremely large amounts of arable land.

Ephaepae'ata was the 5th planet from Solus and though it was poor in arable land, it had huge deposits of a mineral called dimand'n (diamond) and was frequently used as a building material.

Emaerfino was the first planet from Solus, and was scorched during the daytime, frozen during the night.

Xamoli'ana was the second planet from Solus. Today it resembles Emaerfino, though there may have been water on Xamoli'ana billions of years ago....

Between the fifth and sixth planets lie the Kemermini Asteroid Belt. Though it was quite thin, an extremely dense part was named the Kratana Asteroid Field.

Jatroko was the sixth planet from Solus and was a gas giant. Precious metals were thought to be found on one of its moons and a few expeditions have been sent out.

Gemija was the seventh and largest planet, in fact, also a gas giant. There was nothing worth bothering Gemija and nobody did.

The Daxoko system (along with a few other systems) were far from most other systems; the fighting against the Empire of Stars was at most sporadic, but that didn't mean the Empire didn't get to destroy hundreds of square miles of city.

More later....

Okay, Preteon military. I damn well hope this is all correct

Budget: $2000
Military: $600

4 Frigates ($40) (upkeep = $22)
6 Destroyers($84) (upkeep = $45)
1 light vehicle transport ($12) (upkeep = $8)
1 light troop transport ($8) (upkeep = $5)
8 interceptors ($80) (upkeep = $24)
4 Robotic Assault Formation ($80) (upkeep = $76 I think)
50 Light Infantry ($100) (upkeep = $50)

Total cost = $404
Upkeep = $310

New Budget = $1690
New military budget = $478.8

Pray Defence Fleet
2 Frigates (PTS Compression, PTS Machine)
12 light beam (li)
6 1x Missile Rack (li)
2x Bomb Compartments (Med)
---
4 Destroyers (PTS Prelude, PTS Perdition, PTS Bubble, PTS Ending)
12 light beam (li)
6 1x Missile Racks (li)
1 1x Torpedo Rack (med)
1 1x Bomb Compartment (med)
1 1x Medium Beam (med)
---
8 Interceptors
3 light beams (li)
1 1x Missile Rack (li)
1 1x Torpedo Rack (med)
1 3x Missile Racks (med)

Patrol fleet I and II (both same armaments)
1 Frigate (PTS Metamorphosis, PTS Mods)
12 light beam (li)
6 1x Missile Rack (li)
2x Bomb Compartments (Med)
---
1 Destroyers (PTS Angel, PTS Time)
6 1x Missile Racks (li)
1 1x Torpedo Rack (med)
1 1x Bomb Compartment (med)
1 1x Medium Beam (med)

Transport Ensemble
1 Light troop transport (PTS Mover)
50 light infantry
1 vehicle transport (PTS Huffer)
4 Robotic Assualt Formation

NB Robotic Assault Ensemble I've assumed to be equivalent to "sythwarrior units" - 4RAA = 200Synthwarriors, much less powerful individually

------------------
Containing 200 synthwarriors, the PTS Huffer sped away from Pray, to a region separating the Peregrine Confederancy and the Preteon Technocracy, where limited technological life had developed. The panet was to act as a testing ground. As Gibstar watched the ship leave the atmosphere, an adviser informed him of a message from the Imperial Trade Federation. The response was simple: accept the pact, and open borders to trade vessels. Nothing more, nothing less. Reports of the continuing construction of starships also came in, but were largely ignored. Instead, Gibstar turned his eye to the region of the map marked under Peregrine. Gibstar was informed that they were a "democracy" - he would have to teach them how to obey orders.

To: "Citizen" Ariadne Augusta of the Peregrine Confedrancy
Your society is an insult to the great Preteon Technocracy. We would be willing to an exchange of ambassadors, however, if you believe you can meet our high standards for peace.

Put an end to popups!

I've put it so that the RAA is equivalent to the synthwarriors; although they;re not robotic, they have similar power in large numbers: the 4 RAA units I bought = 200 synthwarriors. Is that okay? (I've tried to contact you through ICQ too, I changed m,y account recently, but you don't seem available)

The Athena Nike slipped through the striking realm of hyperspace, sailing to a rendezvous with the Imperial Trade Federation. Energy bolts flitted through the turbulent-looking nearby space, ethereal, appearing and disappearing like fireflies in the night.

Citizen Ariadne Augusta stared out the window of her cabin. She felt trapped and confined, even with the recreation tube the blockade runner was built around. She longed to take to the skies once more, to beat her wings without them brushing against a bulkhead. Hopefully the later generations of ships would have more space available to combat it.

"Ah well," she mused, turning away from the kaliedoscopic view of hyperspace. "What little it'll do will still feel good." She had stretched her back and made a few experimental wing-flaps when the intercom buzzed. It was one of the bridge officers, informing her that a transmission was coming in from Concord.

Taking the transmission, she was pleased to see the face of her aide, Citizen Danae Impavida. They opened up with a minute or two of light conversation before the topic came up. After all, the leader of the Confederacy did have some privileges when it came to the radio.

"The Listeners recieved something else on subspace a few hours ago. We just finished decoding it now, in fact."

"Is it from the Imperial Trade Federation?" Ariadne asked, slightly concerned. "I was certain they got our message informing them of Athena Nike's trip..."

"Can't be, the origin is nearly perpendicular to the ITF," Danae said. "It's another nation, it seems, the Preteon Technocracy. I already looked through the libraries and can't find any mention of them so far, so it's possible this is a relatively new race."

"Well, at least we're finally getting back into the fold of worlds," Ariadne said. "What'd they say?"

"About 300 gigabytes of political rhetoric, stuff we haven't translated, and a bit of stuff which looks to be veiled insults. Here's a choice sampling right here."

To: "Citizen" Ariadne Augusta of the Peregrine Confedrancy
Your society is an insult to the great Preteon Technocracy. We would be willing to an exchange of ambassadors, however, if you believe you can meet our high standards for peace.

"Hmm... I wouldn't take that at face value, though," Ariadne thought after a moment's reflection.

"Smug, superior aliens are not the reason I wanted the Confederacy to reenter the galaxy."

"I don't know... possibly messages like this are a way of greeting, possibly even a show of friendliness. We can't say for sure, and we certainly can't start applying our culture to aliens. For all we know, they might not even have wings!"

Danae and Ariadne discussed the matter for a while longer. Eventually, Ariadne came out as the victor. The Listeners would broadcast a reply to the Preteon Technocracy.

To: Preteon Technocracy
From: Peregrine Confederacy

Optissima venta, fellow citizens of the galaxy. We welcome your message of friendship and look forward to a meeting with your delegates. If you would like, we shall send a blockade runner to escort your delegates to our capital.

The marshall rose from his bed in a cold sweat. Another nightmare about the invasions of the Herclux that ended just last week. Swarms of Uxian powerhouse infantry hit the capitol hour after hour, and all of the sudden disappeared...

The marshall arose from his bed and dressed himself in the proper attire to address his people. He immediately began his way to the

He had thought that all Zhuumatoian colonies had been destroyed by the attack of the Herclux. 3 Star systems were reporting in but all others had been destroyed by the Herclux. Rebuilding was underway, back to the glorious age that arrived before the Herclux Arrival.

Back to rebuilding, he thought....

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Tinderus continued to look over the reports from the mercantile traders...

...while previously we had only encountered sentinent species with less than spacefaring capacities... we have discovered something that might potentially be alarming...

As the Bellatrix Grand, owned and operated by my shipping company, was about to land transporters on the surface of the fifth moon of the Galaxia system, we spotted on scanners another vessel...

As Mygro Shipping INc. has exclusive trade rights in the Galaxia system, we sent a pod to investigate...

They reported finding a ship whose design we have never seen before... it was definitely not Duraii in design...

The vessel refused our hails, and intead entered hyperspace at high speed...

Tinderus looked up. The Hugh Council looked back at him, some with fear, some with anticipation in their eyes.

"Two blockade runners are to be sent to teh Galaxia system as soon as they are finished. I want to to know who or what that was. They are not to engage, but to communicate with any unfamiliar vessels."

OOC: The ship I ran into was an Imperial Trade Federation one... jsut so you know...

ADDITIONAL NOTES: Dragon Divisions are mechanized cavalry (cavalry/mounted infantry) who in my empire are infantrymen on a vehicle with 2 LPRs on the top. Every empire's cavalry/mounted infantry (NOT MI, MI = mobile infantry) gets 2 LPRS. Don't name yours Dragoons, that is what the Imperial Cavalry is called. Every empire gets a 3 man escort (MI) for each artillery piece they have. For armored divisions, when people get some, it is a 2 man per tank (both hover and terrain) escort (MI). Additional money on men escorts is not paid (they are included in the purchase of the tank or artillery). You can say that other things are escorts of artillery or tanks, but they cost the money stated in the rules.

RFS = Royal Fleet Ship. Fighters do not have this because in the future I would need to have thousands of names for individual fighters. Do not name fighters. Naming bombers is your choice, however.

Vessels had recently crossed a small asteroid field into unknown territory. There our scouts found a system that had citizens living with a military, it seems, and an organized government. We then saw a ship of theirs, and our vessel was quickly sent back through the field. We are now trying to communicate with this civilization, and so far, a message to us is being decoded...

The Athena Nike was drawing near the border. Soon the Imperial Trade Federation would be reached, and soon modern Peregrines would contact an alien race in person for the first time.

Citizen Ariadne knew some of the arts of diplomacy, having studied various texts on the subject while aspiring to lead the Confederacy. Though there was a marked difference between mediating between two worlds populated by peoples of much the same mindset and two species with viewpoints that quite likely conflicted wildly, Ariadne was up on most of the procedures.

Before the blockade runner had left Concord, the government had taken the liberty of preparing an introductory infopackage of sorts, designed to provide a glimpse of the Confederacy to any aliens that might be encountered. Ariadne activated her computer terminal and began to browse through it one last time. It would be unfortunate if the first contact message had a typo in it.

Introduction to the Species

Peregrines are a species of quadrapedal humanoid flyers native to the world of Concord, known in old galactic charts as Concordia Prime A. With an average height of two meters, they are no doubt somewhat imposing to species of shorter stature. Flight is possible by a pair of feathered wings, allowing speeds of up to one hundred and eighty kilometers per hour to be reached. Peregrines can easily tolerate extreme hot and cold temperatures, necessary for flight in the upper atmosphere, and can retain enough oxygen within their bodies to sustain themselves for nearly sixty minutes without breathing. However, this ability is useless if exposed to vacuum.

Peregrine society is matriarchal. Women, being larger, stronger and, in many cases, smarter, hold many positions of power. While attitudes have shifted in the last few decades, Peregrine females are essentially in complete control of the society. Peregrines are a fairly easy-going race, and some of their customs may seem shockingly informal to alien species. One dimension of their viewpoint that may seem very strange to aliens is how they view dress; being flyers, Peregrines have no need to clothe themselves to protect from the cold. Thus, only the bare minimum is worn, both to prevent the spread of bodily grime and germs and to minimize impact on the environment through overly aggressive garment industries.

System Layout

Peregrines hail from the binary star system of Concordia. The first star, Ocula Dea (Concordia A) is a large, G1-type yellow main sequence star, and is the primary sun of Concord. The second, Gemma Dea (Concordia B) is a much smaller, A7-class white main sequence star that orbits Ocula Dea at a mean distance of 350 AUs. While Gemma Dea does not support a planetary system other than several rings of asteroids and other debris, Ocula Dea has a total of three planets circling it.

The first two are Concord and Cordia Dea, the Heart of the Goddess. Through some freak of astrophysics, the two worlds are locked in orbit around a point between them, forming what can be described as a binary planet system. While Concord resembles many M-class worlds throughout the galaxy, Cordia Dea's hydrosphere covers some 97% of its surface. Only a few islands break the waves, and thus its population is rather low. Used mainly as a communications station and vacation spot for people throughout the Confederacy, thousands of ships ply its waters every day. Its name comes from the curious aurora-type phenomenon which, once every week, turns the world a shade of red when viewed from Concord.

Further out is a large gas giant, Ira Dea, Anger of the Goddess. Its turbulent, swirling mass of clouds is easily visible from Concord by use of telescopes. While none of its six moons are presently inhabited, its atmosphere contains several precious gases which can be refined into fuel.

The other systems of the Confederacy are as follows...

Ariadne yawned. If this stuff was any drier, Serana would look like a rainforest in comparison. Still, it was diplomacy. Diplomats rarely expected page-turning thrill rides, and they rarely got them either. They sure wouldn't be getting one today.

Two young star-crossed lovers soared through and unexplored solar system in a Ki-Maja personal transport. The "female" was "pregnant" and would deliver a baby Ki-Maja in less than 4 standard years.(standard time being a time established 10,000 years ago during the height of the Ki-Maja dominion). As the gazed into a nearly Star a massive shadow appeared. The comm system turned on and indistinguishable gibberish came over the speakers. The two Ki-Maja adjusted the viewscreen and saw the massive shape of what had to be a warship. Suddenly it seemed like the heavens had erupted as a giant bolt of energy was released towards their ship. After several such shots, their personal transport was destroyed. To the Mhadoras, who had fired the shots, it was standard practice to destroy every ship that wandered into their space and did not stop and submit to boarding when prompted. But out of a minor misunderstanding would soon cause war.

Within seconds, all Ki-Maja knew of the death of the two young ones through their constant telepathic link. With only 50 million of their kind, the loss of even one Ki-Maja was a massive event. Especially if that one was about to spawn another. The Council of 7 and the prime therfore authorized the use of the Planetary guardians to handle the matter by destroying the Mhadoras. As soon as the new planetary guardians had been born, the Mhadoras systems would be invaded.

Meanwhile in the Chamber of Eternity the Council of 7 were being briefed on reports of broadcasts from another world. The exact words of the broadcasts were in another language and unintelligable. Ki-Maja were capable of downloading the language of another race through telepathy but that required direct contact.

OOC: "Imperial" here refers to the nationality of the NPC soldiers.

On the third planet of the solar system classified by Preteon scholars as Meguri, a soldier stood outside the Imperial Palace. Along with around six-hundred other such men, he had been given the task of protecting the Planet. With halberd in hand, pride filled his heart. But... he could hear a faint murmur. He looked around, and saw a large black... something flying into view. Soon the vessel located a large open space near the palace, and began to land. Thousands of the city's residents rushed out to greet... whatever it was. The soldiers also rushed towards the vessel, and struggled to keep order.

A part of the craft opened up, and a stairway folded out. A large stairway. Then, two-metre tall beings slowly walked out. The Imperial soldiers did not know whether to run or attack. Instead, they waited. Within five minutes, two hundred of the beings had exited the vessel. As they stood by their craft, an inquisitive small child got through his planet's soldiers and ran up to one of the beings. His mother broke through the soldiers' blockade also, and followed her child up to the alien beings. The creature looked at both the mother and sun for a few seconds, before taking hold of each of their skulls. It gripped tightly for a few seconds, before throwing away their dead bodies.

Then all hell broke loose. The first soldier to attack the aliens rushed forwards, and struck the creature with his halberd. The skin on the being rippled, and the halberd slipped through the skin, leaving it unharmed. The soldier was dead in a matter of seconds. The other soldiers tried similar attacks, but all were destined to fail. Occasionally, a crossbow bolt would bury itself in the eye of an alien, who would stutter for a moment, then continue its killing. Before the day was over, all Imperial soldiers that had not fled were killed, whilst not a single alien invader died that day. The Preteon synthwarriors had passed their test, and the planet's occupants had failed. The alien beings then boarded their craft, where it moved to another population centre. There, the synthwarriors proceeded to fill the PTS Huffer with as many of the planet's residents as possible, before returning home - the Preteon Capitol of Pray. It was the first of many slave-runs between the two planets.

We received a most interesting transmission emanating from your Homeworld. You appear to have the same enlightened mindset as ourselves. As neighbours, we would welcome an alliance between our great species.

Meanwhile, at a predetermined set of co-ordinates, the PTS Prelude met with a blockade runner of the Peregrine Confederacy...
