GENERAL: Moments & Facts about Call to Power Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

I've been thinking that it would be a nice idea if we could gather any information related with the life cycle of the Call to Power series, the mods, the utilities and the resent source code release. The facts, the legents, the jokes around them. The persons behind them, their decissions, their work, their bad and their good moments, the funny things that happened. A history book about it.

If you find that idea interesting enough and worthy post here anything you know, any source where information can be found, anything you would like to know.

I will gather all the information posted here or in any other location you can direct me to and compile a book with all the data. If someone is willing to help me out with this endeavor he/she is welcomed

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

And please, don't come with the intelligent comment to go and have a search in the forums, here in Apolyton or that the mod history part is already covered by the 3 years mod history that Locutus posted recently. The first is simply too large to search and the second contains little information. The news section can be a good start but looking for anything that you might have heared.

This is a good idea Keygen... and a lot of work. The archived news are indeed a good starting point. I have made a quick search on the Internet and it seems that Apolyton is the one and only site devoted to CtP2.

I could help but not before next year as I currently have to work on courses I will give at the beginning of the year.

I hate work...

That would be great Tamerlin

There's no rush actually. This might take a few months to complete.

Tired of ads?

At least for the older stuff, I reckon I'd be the most useful source for this (unless you can sucker Wes into it) but it's not like I'm picking my nose here, waiting for someone to give me something to do...

Here's one thing I remembered today that should be part of this, an absolute classic: Ode to Activision

Suffering from ads?

I have been snowed under with college work which limits my modding

However even this I spun around to be ctp related

I worte this for the web page I got to do

So rip it to shreds
quote:

A Brief history of call to power

Call to power was made and released by Activision the game itself had a very rocky first steps. Activision the makers of call to power were sued for the use of the official title of the game Civilisation: Call To Power. It was argued that call to power was not an official offspring of the famous civilisation family. So when call to power II was released the word civilisation was no longer put in front of the title.

Mean while in cyber space a community was being born which would extend the playing joy of millions. The Apolyton civilisation sites forums sprang into life and soon modifications and scenarios were being produced by the members using the internal scripting language slic.

Later the mod making might of Apolyton would go on to make even more impressive mods with the infusion of graphics and code which was brought about by the release of Call To Power II.

However this is were the story goes bad. Shortly after the release of Call To Power II Activision Abandoned the game in the middle of the after sale process and only one patch for the many bugs which became apparent was made leaving many bugs un fixed.

Then in the year 2002 a mod maker in the Call To Power community came across a picture on the main Activision call to power site which set in to motion a chain of events which would change the way Call To Power was seen forever.

The mod maker in question wrote to Activision in two waves the first wave was met with immediate hostilities the second wave failed completely however the second wave managed to get the attention of the Call To Power II staff members who visited Apolyton occasionally. And it was due to the vision of these Members that in the middle of 2003 that the source code and Call To Powers future was released.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Big MC, I'd say it is a good start, but definitely needs more examples to add to the "meat" of the text. It seems to read as more of a summary than as a stand-alone story.

...and as Maq stated, some fixes to the grammar are probably in order

I think that we also should take more than one look into the {the list} threads in the "Civilization Games General/Future" forum.

Afterall, many suggestions/thoughts are discussed there - and many origins from the wishes of a better CTP/CTP2.

My highest wish is, that the AI is able to handle ANY concept of the game in a decent way.

My second-higest wish is, that the game should fully support SP, MP and PBEM games.
