My citizens should be happy-but they are not! Remove this text

I am playing my 1st full size game on Emperor, and I don't understand why my citizens are always cranky. As an example Rome, 10bc, is size 7 with 3 happy-1 content-and 3 unhappy, Although my lux slider is at 0, Rome is connected to 3 luxuries, has a temple, a colosseum, and 3 units as garrison. I'm in Republic, and at war the last 3 turns, so WW should not be a factor. I had a 6 turn peace before this war. All my cities are on the verge of revolt, and I hate to turn them into entertainers. Do the rules on citizen contentment change alot between Monarch and Emporer, and if so how much. I could use some advise( and I am sure that the lux slider would help-but I am attemting to not get my *** kicked in tech.) Thanks--

Re: My citizens should be happy-but they are not! Full PM-box? Change here!

With only 6 turns of peace the people still have lots of WW stored up. You should click on the citizens and see why they are unhappy.
Republic does not benefit from MP's, IIRC.

To get leverage from lux you need marketplaces. So you now have two choices, crank up the slider or create some specialist. I am presuming that you cannot get out of the war at this time.

Also, it is important who started the war. If you did, that can cause immediate WW, while if war was declared on you the effects should be somewhat delayed. I'm assuming you declared war, so I would say your problems stem from that declaration in addition to previous WW that hasn't gone away since the last war.

vmxa is quite right, in a republic, having units in your city does nothing for unhappiness.

Even without war weariness your citizens are just as happy as they should be in the circumstances you describe. Luxuries first move content citizens to happy (instead of unhappy to conent).

Here's how it works out, applying all the contentedness and happiness modifiers to your 7 citizens starting from a baseline of all citizens being born unhappy, and using numbers in a H - C - U format for happy, content, unhappy, respectively.

0 - 1 - 6: At Emperor 1 citizen is born content.

0 - 2 - 5: Temple makes 1 citizen content.

0 - 4 - 3: Colosseum makes 2 citizens content.

3 - 1 - 3: Three luxuries make 3 content citizens happy.

Good call, Catt. I always forget that the temple and colosseum have different values than they did in Civ2. I stand corrected.

Put an end to popups!

Catt the chart does not reflect any impact of WW. So it could be even worse, if you have lots of WW.

Anyway, once you get 3 lux, you really want to get that marketplace build to get the modifier effect.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

Goos idea vmxa - remember that Market can only give you an extra happy face at present, but as soon as you hook up one more lux you get another two, etc. In this case however 10% luxury slider will give you another citizen content-happy. You will thus be able to support a city of size 8 without WW. Worth a shot.
