	Things that didn't suck, but should have... Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, especially the musical episode. Any TV show about vampire-slaying cheerleaders should, by all rights, die a nasty and quick death due to overwhelming suckosity, but this one... damn, it was good. Easily some of the best dramatic writing on TV during its run, and it wasn't afraid to take chances - an episode where 2/3rds of it is silent (everybody loses their voice), the above-mentioned musical, even the fact that there was continuity that ran through all 7 seasons, where things that happened in season 2 would have an impact in season 6... this was one damn good show that shouldn't have been as good as it was.

What have you been pleasantly surprised by?

The first Matrix - It was a movie about a guy who is trapped in a computer simulated world with big tentacle like robots running around. Plus it had Keanu Reeves in it. Anyone in their right mind could have panned the concept. Thankfully the film was done as it should have been.

It should have sucked royal (you know what) but it wasn't really that bad. Don't get me wrong though, the new Battlestar Galactica still sucked, but it didn't suck royal..........

Ever read Neuromancer or any of the Cyberpunk genre books? The Matrix is just a ripoff of it, and in a decidedly non-scientific pulp fiction way. What, using humans as batteries?

"Pirates of the Caribbean" - Movies based on games and TV shows have sucked royally. There was no reason why a movie based on a RIDE should have been even halfway decent.

Goldeneye for N64... sort of what Imran said. Games made about movies usually suck... but Goldeneye was the greatest console first-person shooter ever (and still is).

and Halo was okay... ON PC... but X-Box is lame anyways.

Goldeneye is so great because when it came out, there was nothing much else like it for consoles... and PC FPS's didn't have the same multiplayer action because the internet was 56k dominated and quite lame.

But when HALO came out, there were 100 different games like it. And with the internet, PC FPS's dominated because of broadband. Counter-Strike (and maybe now Call of Duty) is my new benchmark. Nothing can top the multiplayer action and sheer fun of Counter-strike. I've got HALO for PC (a pirated version.. I ain't paying for that **** game) and it sucks. Multiplayer is laggy. There aren't any good servers, and the multiplayer experience isn't even as fun as regular half-life.

it was Goldeneye with different guns and graphics... c'mon... with all the hype and time spent on that game (1 or 2 years after G:eye, it should have been better).

Mitch Hedburg - His comedy is rambling and often incoherent...and perhaps the funniest out there.

Tough Crowd - Colin Quinn is hosting a show? Should be crap, but it ain't.

eminem is okay... his act is kind of old now... I get more entertainment, however, at listening to all the eminem haterz... especially the people mad at his use of the word "Faggot" and "gay".

People offended by those words accusing him of being a bigot should step back and take a look at American language and slang... using those words doesn't make you a bigot. It's not eminem's fault that bigoted language has become mainstream slang. Nigger used to be mainstream slang and used by people (and still used) who aren't necessarily racists. In fact, I think it's more disturbing that black people call each other nigger or nigga than when white racists do it. I mean, jesus, white racism has won when blacks use those slurs to proudly describe themselves or their friends.

Anyways, eminem is a talented rapper, and he's a got a good production team headed by Dre. his music is good... I even thought he was good in 8 mile, which surprised the hell outta me.

Not to threadjack, but it really makes my skin crawl when other gays and lesbians use the word "fag" with the same disregard for its ugliness that african-descendants use the word "nigger" with. "Gay" and "queer" aren't so bothersome, but "fag" and "nigger" - among others - have no place in civilized language.

I sort of agree... I think it's wrong to use language that offends other people... but at the same time, some people need to lighten up and look at the context and meaning in which it is used.

It's hard for me to not say "oh that's gay" or use the insult "oh you are a fag" because its how I grew up... I try to make a conscious effort, but I'm not perfect. And while I do use that language IRL, I'm not a bigot or anything. I hate most everyone and I think people suck and they should mostly die; but I'm not a racist or homophobe or anything like that. I think society should be fair and treat people equally.

It's a shame that "jewish" is used to describe someone cheap... or that "gay" has become a substitute for "lame" or "stupid". But that's the way language and slang terminology work. It's hard to break habits like that. The best we can do is educate our children to not speak like that and make a conscious effort not to use that language that offends others.

But people need to not have victim complexes when it comes to those kinds of terms. Just because someone is ignorant and uses that language, doesn't make them a racist or bigot.
