Well, I got to hear the guy now!

He got maximum points from all countries, except the Arabs.

And hey, Jimmy, it's not because she didn't win this that you're gonna see her any less. But with a bit of luck we'll hear more of the Norwegian guy.

He doesn't win anything, by the way, just the worldwide exposure and um... honour.

There luckily weren't really any "political" votes either.

Lost of fun... Well, the first-round auditions are a lot more fun, but um... it beats the Eurovision Song Contest.

ESC remains unchallenged: more terrible songs performed by all kinds of freaks. And the voting ceremonies are the best in the whole show.

The masses have amply demonstrated a complete absence of taste Besides, this level of talent is abundant, good singers aren't rare...but I think something far superior is required to these run-of-the-mill clones. And then there is the superficial judgement of them on their looks. I mean, what kind of criterion for judging music is that?!

If you don't think looks doesn't play a part in band/artist popularity then you haven't been following music long . Hell, this has been well known since before the Beatles!

These "run-of-the-mill clones" will be coming anyway, so why not have a little fun in the process and laugh at all the miserable failures and pop idol wannabes get yelled at along the way.

When you're done laughing you can put your Bad Religion CD on again.

Yeah, and it is a pathetic criteria - one I have nothing to do with.

And Mercator, it may have been moderately amusing at first, but it went too far - and then some. Now I am just sick to death of the whole phenomenon, and I am sure I speak for many...

I'm sure you will get much support for that comment, but my wife watches Lifestyle channel, so i can't agree with you!

Endless home renovations, antiques and cooking shows

Obviously you're also too young to remember Donny and Maree Osmond and The Black and White Minstrel Show

Thanks for reminding me how bad television is, has been, and will be!!!

Lung: lots of that other crap is on weird cable stations I don't watch... because of sports, Simpsons, 24, Seinfeld, and Malcom; I am forced to watch commercials for shitty FOX programming... like "The Simple Life" with penis-pincushion-skank Hilton and Jacko-molested-my-anus Nicole Richie... this IDOL ****... and this new "My fiance is a fat obnoxious **** eating ass monger" or something like that...

Fox is so extreme... extremely good ****... and extreme... well... ****

You know, if we went back in time and told some people from the 40's or 50's that in the future, there were over a hundred channels on basic cable, they'd be like "OMFG TV gets AWESOME in teh FuturE"... upon bringing them to the future, they would say "WTF is this bullshit!??!!?" the future sucks... then they would promptly go back and start a nuclear war with the soviet union and pre-emptively destroy our shitty television programming.

While I loathe Simon and the things he says, Idol isn't remotely the worst crap in the history of television. At least it does a good job of displaying a lot of genuine talent.

Joe Millionaire, Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire, Boy Meets Boy, Mr. Personality--all of these are examples of television sinking far, far lower.
